Tuner Junction infraction system
Tuner Junction infraction system
OK with the new upgrade to the vB software there is a new feature which we will be using on the forum. It's quite simple. The infraction system works on points. If you post something that does not follow the rules of the forum you can be given an infraction by the staff. Each infraction carries a certain point value. When you reach a certain value you are banned automatically. The ban lasts for a given length of time and then automatically re-instates you.
This system is good in that any moderator can give an infraction in an unbiased manor. He or she doesn't need to know if you have been warned about something earlier, the system keeps track.
Also, if you have an infraction it will automatically clear itself over time (like points on your license).
The infraction will show up on your post so you an others can see why you were slapped. Also, a copy of your post gets automatically posted in our moderator forum where we can discuss it if need be.
The infractions are below:
Spammed Advertisements: 1 point, expires in 10 days (probably will never get this because we're easy about advertising here)
Signature Rule Violation: 5 points, expires in 30 days
Inappropriate Language: 10 points, expires in 30 days
Insulted Other Member(s): 15 points, expires in 30 days
- If you reach 30 points in any given period you are automatically placed in the miserable user group (not a fun place to be)
- If you reach 50 points in any given period you are automatically banned for 5 days.
Once more this is not because we want to punish people arbitrarily. Quite frankly it's because of the insulting of other users that's been going on. I'm still a bit pissed off about loosing one of our staff members and there have been some others that have left as well. Regardless of who is right and who is wrong there is way to much bad mouthing going on lately. This system will hopefully curb that. One last thing, staff members can be hit by this as well.

i'm guessing this works in conjuction with reporting posts (that caution sign thing). i like the idea of this system, but will it apply universally or just in tech forums? in the OT it can be hard to discern between breaking balls and flaming sometimes.

Yes, it's gonna be difficult however keep in mind that when an infraction is given it can be overruled by an admin. Each infraction shows up as a new post in the moderators forum where we can discuss it if need be.
Also, all the settings are adjustable. We may need to tweak it so that half the forum doesn't get banned in the first week
Once other point, the red card is an actual infraction. The yellow card is a warning. Mods can choose to warn you instead of giving an infraction. This may be wise to do in the beginning until everyone knows what is going on.

sounds good. will there be a way to keep track of which mod/super/admin gives what infractions? that would be more for you to see if anyone has an itchy infraction finger.
... and if this were indoor soccer we could bust out a blue card too

Yes, we can see who reported the post and imposed the infraction.

you're not supposed to swear in the tech forums anyway, only the lounge. that's been pretty lax though.

Correct, and at the moment I may be taking the "lounge" threads out of the "new post" button. Because everytime I hit "New Posts" half the threads that come up have some sort of profanity in them. There's always some fool who has a "How long is your ball hair" thread

The longe is probably gonna be pretty lax but everything else is gonna be almost zero tolerance. Thats why the lounge is there so all the bs threads can go in there the cursing and whatever else you wanna post in there. Ive seen too much whoring of the tech sections and other sections not called the lounge. The infraction system is a great idea and its gonna help get this place cleaned up and its a good idea that mods are included in this as well. no nazi mods. Keeps everybody honest so to speak. Though i know for a fact all the staff we have are great bunch of guys and arent nazi in anyway shape or form.

question.
i was rather abrasive when i first joined tuner-junction.
if i get my panties in a wad again, and i revert back to my douchey ways, it can only be confined to the lounge?
or will i be receiving infractions in the lounge as well?

well just do what u feel is necessary and appropriate. humans involved in anything is gunna screw anything up. its a universal rule lol. so just enjoy ur time here and see how ya go.
its not like the mods have flexed much in the past anway. i dont think we've used our powers in any corrupt manner so thats not goin to change.
