Toyota Tacoma

So I want to get a Tacoma 88-95, 4x4, locking hubs, manual transfer case (I think they all are)
Anyone know anything about these trucks? I've never heard of any big problems they have. As far as I'm conserned they are great trucks, but IDK. If anyone knows anything about them then my ears are open. I'm eaither gonna sell my rex for what I can get out of it, or sell and strip the rex down and do something along the lines of another rex owner on here but probably n/a

i drove a 83, 89, and 95 in central am this summer. all were solid. with good tires and lift they can go ANYWHERE. the 22R is built to last. on 2 cylinders (rotted spark plug wires) i still got the 83 to get up on a 45 * grade hill on 4x4 low without a problem.

the other pickups were well maintained, the 89 had a new 20R and it ran like a champ through the worst rain trenched jungle roads you can imagine. the 95 was a rental also with a 22R that ran perfect. although during the week i had it i didnt get a chance to take it offroad much, but with its 2" lift and 33" tires i think it could have handled it.

i love those trucks and i've actually been wanting to get one for a couple years now.

cant go wrong with a toyota pickup. just make sure its well maintained. and hell the motors are dirt cheap. so a good interior/body is good enough reason to pick one up.

I've had quite a few Toyota trucks and I know as much about them as my CRX.

I can tell you that you have the name wrong The Tacoma didn't come out until 1996. The earlier trucks were just called "Toyota P/U".

There's too much to go over but if you want a Tacoma both the 4cyl and the 3.4V6 are great choices.

If you want the earlier Yota be sure to watch yourself with the 3.0V6 they are prone to blow head gaskets. Toyota actually had a recall on these engines for that. The 4cyl, everyone knows it as 22RE (fuel injected 1986+) is a fucking crazy engine. Not very powerful but an amazing workhorse. Arguably one of Toyota's best engines. The earlier non-fuel injected 22R is also a good engine. Watch for rusted beds before 1989.

1989 is when the truck got a bit more rounded but still looked beefy (extra cab got much bigger)
1995 last year of the "truck"
1996 Tacoma came out, kick ass 16valve 4cy and 190hp 24valve 3.4lt v6

1994 built ExtraCab SR5 v6

1984 4Runner, 22R, 9.5" lift, 35" Goodyear mud terrains, lots of crazy mods...... unstoppable rock crawler

2002 Tacoma ExtraCab SR5, color package, loved that truck

1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited, loaded with leather and locking rear diff. 3.4lt V6 24v

I figured you can't go wrong with them, I was wanting the 4cyl anyways.
I'm gonna find out about this nissan tomorrow, if the price is right then I'll be buying that.

so I go to look at this 86nissan, 3in body lift, 33's, 5spd, 4cly, pretty striat, just some rust on the cab corners. The guy comes out and says his dad is the one selling it, I ask him how much and he tells me 2500 I'm like, well can I take it on a drive? He throws me the keys and says have at it. So I fire it up. it idles a little ruff(it needs some carb work) but the engine was quiet as can be. I go down the road and its a dog, big time, but it ran good, when it was cold you could lay it to the floor and it would keep on going so its in good tune, engine didn't smoke / leak. Now when I got up to about 55-60? (speedo is off due to the tires) it would wander big time, I mean it would be going strait then all of a sudden dart to the left. My friend says its because its such a small truck with such big tires, but idk it felt really odd when it did that. I'm gonna call the guy here in a little bit and see if I can't talk him down to about $800 after all I did talk a guy down $4500 for that rustang in other words I got it for half of what he was asking

Listen, if the truck is setup right it WILL NOT wander. Some thing is probably bent. My buddy had 33" super swampers on his truck and we used to fly down the parkway 85-90mph with zero fears. I had 35" Goodyear mudterrarins (H1 tread) and never had any wandering problems.

If I were you I would stay away from Nissan trucks. This is coming from a guy who's brother OWNS a Nissan dealer (some of you may not have known that)

Thats what I thought, the guy seemed like an ass. I was looking at the drive line of it and it is pretty much a ranger. I want a late 80's yoda truck so bad, but I can't find any 4x4's around for a good price

besides the dents and subsequent rust, very nice. it only needs to get rid of that shift knob and a good bay cleaning. looks like there is a lot of interest in it already. so that price will most likely go way up.

yeah that T handle is teh gay, and I figure the price will probably go higher than what I want to pay, if it goes for more than 2k then I'm not going to bid

The condition is not bad for the year and mileage. Keep in mind that truck is basically a stripped 4x4. Zero options. If you can deal with no AC and roll up windows then fine. Just keep in mind there are some pretty hot loaded Yotas out there. SR5 package gets you leather wheel, sunroof, windows locks, AC, leather knob and boot, kick ass stereo, lots of chrome trim on the outside, etc.

For that truck it looks like it has a slight lift with some typical sag in the rear leafs (they will need to be replaced). Nice BFG all-terrains (probably 31s), and American Racing wheels (I think outlaws or gamblers)

thats the only thing, I have never owned anything with a/c and I was hopping to find one with it, manual windows and no cruise don't bother me to much though
