Supra 7m build
A freind of mine just bought a mk3 supra. So of course its time to build up that nice 7m. Ive already done research and for the power he wants we can get it out of the stock internals and the oem turbo with some modifications to it. However when I started researching the 7m I noticed that alot of people warn or bitch about the 7m's head gasget going. Supposedly this is a big problem with that gen supra. So I was looking into after market headgasgets. Any recomendations? I found the greddy ones and they seem pretty good so we might be going with that. What do you toyota guys think?
The HKS Sequential BOV is already on its way and look forward to some home depot diy mods soon like the washer wastegate trick

depends on how low or high you want your compression.

funny u should say. my friend who graduated with me....well as u know we blow alot of our spare money on cars.....just wutever cash layin around goes into them, which tends to be more than most lol
well his is a totally rebuilt and reengineered 7m-gte.
in terms of gaskets, its true, depends how much compression u want
basically the general rule, u want as high a compression as possible but to still RELIABLY stand how much boost ur running. great low-end power and torque, and the turbo will handle the rest when it spools.
7m's arent the easiest to rebuild and/or build. and the stock ceramic turbo's are prolly shot....but yeah good luck. its a fuckin long path, but a good path if u have the patience and cash.
atmospheric bov's fuckin suck. too many problems with high fuel/rich mixtures, problems on cold starts. and i dont know ONE race car that has a bov venting to atmo. just use the stock one. if u like ricer sounds, compressor surge of the turbo sounds tougher anyway. but fuck atmo bov's. that shits for kids.

yeah, I was telling my freind not to even worry about that yet but you know how people are lol. My main concern was the compresion check and looking the engine over and see the condition its in before anything else. After more research the head gasget im going with is the hks 1.2 because we dont want to fuck with the compresion much.
We are looking to cook up a decent little drift setup but the owner wants to make it faster before he gets into drifting. So ive already done the research and I know what we are doing with the engine. Nothing riddiculous aiming for over 300hp and 400s for tq. Heres what we are doing and in what order.
Simple shit
1. Routine maintenance, compresion check, look over everything
2. Head Gasget
3. Retork the head gasget yo 70 - 75 lbs
4. Wastegate mod
5. Check the condition of the turbo. (the car only has 110 miles and from what ive been reading those turbos are good till they reach the 150k mark. if everything is good it will give us some time to get other things done)
Getting our feet wet
1. Install the after market BOV
2. 3" down pipe, exhaust and high flow cat
3. Intercooler
4. Electronic boost controller (then take those ghetto washers out)
5. Raise boost to 13psi
The car can take the 13psi safely and thats pretty much the limit of the turbo. Furthermore we cant boost passed that till later because the 7m has a fail safe that wont let you boost any more but these mods will be enough to get a little bit more pep out of the engine till we can get to the final stages of what we want to do.
Higher boost
1. 550cc injectors (I dont think they are needed but I like to play it on the safe side)
2. Walboro GS341
3. Have the stock CT26 modified to use a 60 - 1 garret compressor wheel and have the exhaust clipped 8 - 12 degrees. This will allow the turbo to go past 13psi and make it bad ass from 15 - 20 psi which is what we are aiming for.
4. Engine management get an HKS FCD to have the boost cut removed
5. Take on the dyno to get it tuned.
We should get the amount of power we are looking for from the engine at a relatively low cost and the engine can handle it safely. This is bassically what most of the 7m guys go through with the engine and the owner should be happy with it. We have that plan worked out and now I just have to do some research on the clutches and flywheels for the car and the differential.
I was looking into cusco but I think Im going to end up going with the kaaz dif. The coil over wise im looking at JIC, TEIN and K office. I dont think we are going to go with k office because they are way to much. A couple of freinds stationed in okinagwa are telling me that on their supras every one over there is running the JIC but they are prone to go after a year or so. That really putting me off on them and they said alot of people are doing good with the tein set ups. You can rebuild the teins so thats no biggy

kei office is a big no no
they were good while they lasted. but these taiwanese made jap branded coilovers had shit life-span. seals blow easy.
so much so tsuchiya the wanker folded the company and created DG-5. hence why kazama runs a blue car now and is in association with GP Sports.
tein obviously u cant go wrong
but try Tanabe SEVENS or Zeal Functions. both well made with good support. valving is responsive. bound/rebound blah blah blah.
