Well it's mandatory that you go. Not sure what can happen. Before you start to worry and freak out call them as soon as you can. Meaning really should try before thursday. I'm sure if you tell them that you go the mail on such short notice they should prolly reschedule you. Good luck

best excuse to get out of jury duty= You're going to school away from home and will be gone.
I've already gotten out of it once with that one.

What happens if I fail to report for jury service?
Any juror who fails to report for jury duty and who is not excused by the Court may be served a Show Cause Order by the U.S. Marshals Service. Subsequently, those jurors will be required to show cause why they should not be held in contempt of the Jury Selection Act. Contempt penalties range from a fine of $100.00 to three days imprisonment, or both (U.S.C. 28 Section 1866(g)).
*From the US District Court of Southern Alabama's website... this was just the first thing google had for me.

I'd just call and explain what happened. Good luck.

i really dont know why anyone would skip jury duty. I had duty a month before i left for the west coast. and you know what?
I enjoyed it, it was really cool to get to see how the court system works and be part of someone's life you don't know. think about it the fate of a person may be in your hands.

i just check the box on the back of the form that says i do not have sufficient knowledge of the english language and send it in. the school excuse doesn't work. they'll just postpone your duty. i don't like the idea of sitting around waiting to be selected then having to decide someone's fate. i hate decisions. i always look at every aspect of any decisions i make and it drives me nuts. the other day i spent an hour deciding on what baseball helment to get. lol i was contemplating design, color, potential use and all that jazz.

but thats the fun part.
its either yes or no. you have to decide beyond the reason of a doubt. meaning if you have ANY reason to think maybe a person isn't guilty. then you HAVE to say innocent. the only time you say guilty is that you are 100% certain.

yeah well u skip it if ur really too busy with work and u got better things to do......
im officially free of jury duty cos i explained to them that i had to study......then they delayed it.....so then when i had to move interstate for work....they just swiped it all together, and i explained so they should, cos im doin enough for the community as it is anyway. they tended to agree.......

plus all the waiting and sitting around. i'd be tossing around in my chair because i can't stand to be sitting still. i'd be thinking about my numb ass more than i would the trial. you wouldn't want me on the jury lol

yeah most people enjoy jury duty. the statistics say that once you have been orientated most people are eager to serve. If you want to get off of jury duty like they said just say you go to school out of state.
