Guns...

Don't know if this is the correct forum but I figured I'd get another opinion on Handgun Selection here.

Up until now I've (legally) owned few different .22s & a Pheonix Arms .25 but now I'm finally ready to get a real gun. I've held/felt, sometimes, shot all sort of hand guns but never in a range. In a range only experience I have is Sig 9mm and S&W 1911 .45. Went in with my buddy's .45 again today and rented a Kahr K9 to try it out. I had picked the new Kahr CW9 after reading reviews and its looks & price had appeal as well. However after shooting the K9 today I'm very very disappointed it, it had a lot more kick, very unstable and poor accuracy, louder as well. Comparing all this to my friend's Smith & Wessun .45ofcourse. I know I'm comparing 2 different categories here as the cw9 is more of a back up/concealable smaller muzzle/barrell gun.

So, based on all that blabber, any recommendations based on actually experience other than preference? My friend suggested trying out a Berretta, I'm going to go back to range on wed. and rent one. Until then I'm still clueless....itching to buy a new one but I don't want to make a wrong decision so help!

haha...good to see there is help available. Well as of now the main use will be recreational, more than likely indoor range only. With that said I did want something compact that easily fit into a 4x6" to 5x7" box so I can lug it in my bike's storage instead of having to take my backpack. Defense is the last thing I want and hope need it for, Bay area got crazy road rage though so yea, in a nutshell, Primarily to improve my marksmanship, being able to transport it easily would be a plus.

Btw, Yes I do realize compacts will be less accurate and thought I could deal with is but man yesterday was very frustrating. Shooting my friend's S&W 1911 .45 I was putting *most* bullets dead on thru pink X and the ones I missed were very close on the outside of the black lines but as soon as I used the Kahr K9 9mm it was fuckin uncontrollable, 1 shot might be too high and land on 9 and next would be far off right on the 7. Really re-considering Kahr CW9 now.

ever see a commander style 1911? You are not going to have the ammo capacity of a double stack, so is that important?

something like that. Also the compact H&K USP is a very nice pistol.

I go to the local indoor range a lot, actually... since the state won't let me own a gun, I have to rent them... so I've put a few hundred rounds through every gun they've got...

I like the USP, it feels good in my hands... I've never shot the compact version though... just the full size. but my personal favorite is the Glock 19 9mm pistol... I know it's not the most powerful thing out there... but it's light, easy to use, and pretty accurate. Haven't really been a big fan of any of the .45's I've shot though... I dont really know why... just dont much care for it.

yeah I just shot my AR the other day. I love it! They are such a pain in the ass to clean also.

I also will be trying out for CRT next month, if I get that I get a full auto carbine AR and all the other cool gear.
