2.5rs
Alright I'm a Roo fan so I'm gonna get this shit rolling.
I've always wanted a ~'99 Impreza 2.5RS. Just wondering if that motor is good for boost? How does it compare to the STi motor? What is the displacement difference between the two? I think the STi is a 2l? I know there's a special STi called the 22B, which is a stroked STi AFAIK.

when you buy a gc8 (2.5RS is a 2.5l na motor) what you need to do is pull out the naturally aspirated motor, and replace it with either a jdm 2.0l turbo/tranny from a gc8 model wrx/sti or a usdm 2.0l engine and tranny from the usdm wrx, or the 2.5l turbo/tranny from the usdm STi.
no point in blowing a few engines before you get it right.
by the way, the engines bolt in very very very easily.
there were very few 22b STi ever made. Subaru of America has 1, i think subaru only made 50 or so
in my opinion, get the 2.5l turbo from the usdm sti.

I think with the rite ecu and turbo a 2.5rs motor will hold up as well as any 2.0 or 2.5 thats factory turbo'd. all you need is the factory parts from a salvage vehicle to make it all possible, very easy to do. maybe not so easy to find the salvage vehicle though, even wrecks go for quite a bit.

I heard some where that the 2.5rs could actually put down more power boosted then the 2.0 turbo. Is this true?

There's a few guys in my city with 2.5RS Turbos. What is wrong with the motor in stock form? Can't handle power? What about the transmission?

moneybags
That's some good numbers, concidering the stock RS came with like 165hp.
I always thought the 2.5RS was a good motor, just wasn't sure if the internals can handle very much power. How does the trans. stand up against the STi??

The 2.5rs block cant take boost..its pointless boosting it..
tranny is the same as the usdm wrx..there ok but if you beat on them they'll break...because subaru took that tranny and put it on the wrx when the first wrx's came out in 02 thats why trannys were blown like mofo's..
that dyno sheet..was the ej257..which is the verison 7 motor..very good block..ALL jdm sti blocks has forged internals in them..thats what makes them alot better..

at this point in time in the subaru world, there really is no point going for the jdm engines. the 257 is where its at.
