Like Magus I also fell off the face of the Earth. Been crazy busy with school + no internet at my new apartment. Getting the hook up today though
Anyhow, earlier this week shift into 3rd was rough for 2x days. Day 3 of this crap, the 4th of July, I decided I would change tranny fluid... after I moved crap from my storage to my apt.
So I get the lude loaded up with my futon, + a bunch of boxes and I'm driving home. Then after a light, I'm shifting into 2nd and the shifter goes totally floppy... I stop the car in the median turn lane, let out the clutch, engine stalls. The shifter is entirely floppy but doesn't do shit = shift cable is dead.
Got it towed to Pep boys, since they were the only shop I found that was open on the 4th. I wanted to try to repair myself, but I have no time and but who knows if I coulda done it.
The car should be done today.
Cost: $59 towing, $60 evaluation, $325 shift cable, $300 labor ($75/hr x 4) + $60 tax = $805
Questions:
1. how hard is it to change a shift cable
2. this is an uncommon problem, right?
3. how much should this repair cost? i feel i paid too much, but i felt i had no other choice at the time.
