vtec controller options

sup all. after what seems to be for ever of having this engine in my car (bout 4 months) and having no vtec, i finally got it figured out. not i have it. thats not what this post is about though, ive heard and just now realized that honda didnt do such a great job of setting the vtec engagement point on the ludes. im looking for a vtec controller and im wondering if anyone can reccommend a pretty good, yet cost effective one? ebay has the buddyclub v-con for about $55 shipped. i know buddyclub is a reputable brand, anyone have one? i have a chipped p28 from phearable and had them set the engagement at 5000, but that still seems too low. i was thinking more like 4500rpm would be good. it actually engages around 5400 which is stock or atleast damn close to it. i dont want a vafc because theyre bad news. im not looking for a piggyback system, all i want is a vtec controller.

thanks in advance guys.

it just seems like it should be set a little lower. either that or i need a dyno tune. but i dont think thats the case cause thats how it is for every lude ive driven that i know of. or do you think it has something to do with the fact that i have the h23 tranny? if i redline, i dont fall out of vtec though.

it just seems like it should be set lower. i dunno, maybe its just me? maybe soemthings wrong. it engages smooth but still cracks hard at the same time. i like it and all and always have especially on the h22s, but it sounds like the engines going to blow up when it engages lol. do ya think maybe i just beed a dyno tune? i have i/h/e stage 1 clutch, and 8 pound flywheel. is that even enough to bennefiet from a dynotune?

Kindofa vauge description... im still not understanding what your problem is. Just stay clear of making the same mistake i did, and buy a vafcII or other kind of vtec controller bc you think you can crossover to vtec quicker assuming you`ll be faster. Droppin it to anything lower than 5200L->H and 5100 H->L on a relatively stock setup only robs you of power. 5500 L->H and 5400H->L is what i ended up keeping it at for now till i can get it street tuned. Whoever chipped ur p28 at 5400 kept it there for a reason. Not to mention I'd think a $50 ebay controller would only be a disaster waiting to happen.

damn straight.

and I wouldn't say the vafc is bad news altogether... if you want a really light tune, it's practically perfect. If you dont have much done to your ride, I/H/E and that's it... a vafc makes more than enough sense, as it's an inexpensive solution and it'll do what you need, for the most part. There's obviously better stuff out there, but if the afc is dyno tuned properly then it's not a bad little device.

either way, get it dyno tuned by a professional, whatever you do.
