Exclamation Idle Problems, Idles at Redline

Ok fine it doesn't really idle at redline ... like most idle problems, it idles loww... Anyways this is how the story goes: Ever since I had a new motor swapped in, my idle has been too low 90% of the time.

Most times the idle is 500rpm, sometimes sputtering below 500 when i stop, and then recovering to 500rpm. When the car idles low, the car drives worse than normal. The exhaust also seems to sound louder when this happens.

Rarely, the car idles normally at 750rpm, and the car feels more powerful, and the exhaust is more a solid tone and not as raspy and loud.

I think the cause of this is my exhaust leak, possibly because I am missing a gasket behind the cat, and because there is a small small crack in the exhaust piping before the resonator. But, I have read that an exhaust leak would only effect idle if it was before O2 sensors?

I plan on fixing my exhaust sometime, but do you guys think this is the likely cause? and should I check other things

if the crack or leak is BEFORE the primary 02 sensor then yes this could cuase the problem. If you have OBD2 and its before the secondary 02 sensor then no this is most likely NOT your problem.

Although if the crack is NEAR the primary it maybe screwing up the reading from the sensor causing this.

Isn't there a screw you can turn to bring up the idle, or is that only on some older cars?
