Just some behind the scene's shots my girlfriend took of me and my friend (the model) while I was shooting an assignment called "CD Album Cover". Like it sounds we had to shoot a a CD cover art while using what is known as the Depth of Light technique. By moving the flash to subject in relation to the flash to background you can shift the tone of the background everywhere from white w/ detail to black with detail. I'll post pictures of the actual shots when I get the chance to scan them.

well there is a formula on how to determine what your background will appear as. it has to do with comparing your subject to flash and your background to flash.
say that your subject to flash = 12.5 feet
and your background to flash = 22 feet
you have to determine that your feet is compared to you fstops

so say f/12.5 - f/22 = 1 2/3 stops

now say that your background is actually a middle gray value. you would move 1 2/3 stops up the grayscale chart

your wall would appear as a black w/ detail wall.
