Sounds liek the zoom is stuck or something, i'd stay far away from buying that lens.
I'd highly suggest you buy the Sigma 70-300mm DG APO lens, it's about $210 from B&H, great zoom lens. I might be a lil more than buying a used zoom, but at least you will have a warranty, plus know it's new and will work. You don't wanna spend $100 on a lens that'll break in a day or in you case is already broken. If you try to be too cheap, in the end you are just going to end up spending more money, buying another lens. Or worse wasting money on a broken lens.
