Review: Seafoam motor treatment

I realize that Seafoam topics have been beaten to death in other forums. But this one lacks a good Seafoam thread. I also forgot to bring my digital camera over to my friend's house so I could take pictures of the process while I did it there, we might Seafoam his Civic so I'll take pictures then and write up a DIY.

What Seafoam does (according to the can):
Cleans injectors/carburetors
Carbon cleaner
Fuel stabilizer
Frees lifters and rings
De-icer Anti Gel
Upper Cylinder Lube
Dries Oil and Fuel (removes water)

When run through your motor/fuel system it basically cleans the carbon buildup on your injectors, valves, cylinder walls and pistons; eliminating hesitations, stalls, pings, and rough idle. And it is 100% pure petroleum so it is combustible and safe to use in all gasoline and diesel engines, both 2 and 4 cycle.

Today, I decided to finally run it through my car:
1992 Civic DX sedan, bone stock with the D15B7 at 191,860 miles. Some people have said not to use Seafoam on a high mileage motor, but I've heard a lot of success stories from people who have used Seafoam on much older motors. But I did feel like I took a risk by using it.

I bought one can from Napa at $6.99. People on other forums quoted $5.99 but since this is the only place in my small town that sells it, I got screwed by supply and demand again... as usual.

I put 1/3 (a third) of the can through the brake booster line, and plan to put another 1/3 into the gas tank next time I fill up. After the hose sucked up the proper amount of the solution I killed the motor and let it sit for about 5 minutes and started it back up. The smoke was incredible, more than I imagined, even thicker when I revved it up. The whole neighborhood was filled with white smoke, which I was relieved to see that it wasn't blue or black so I knew everything was okay.

Immediately after I began the "spirited drive" as directed by the can, the motor was amazingly quiet. In fact, I can't remember the last time the motor was so quiet. It idled like it was brand new, and the throttle response improved significantly. After it all burned off, that extra dollar that I didn't expect to spend on it was well worth it.

I recommend it to everyone, even on high mileage motors. Just don't put it into your crankcase if you have 100,000 miles or more. And if you do, change your oil within 10 minutes.

Edit: P.S. If anyone wants to see the email that was sent to me by the Seafoam company regarding using this solution on high mileage motors. PM me with your email address and I'll forward it to you.

Change your sparkplugs after using the stuff because it fouls em out. Good shit. I use it too. But you want to get in into the intake manifold fromt more than just the brake booster. Do it from brake booster and pvc for middle cylinders, fuel pressure regulator line for cylinder number one and spray into TB to get cyl number 4.

I forgot about that, so I went out to check my plugs. They look fine, there's plenty left in them to last me 'til my scheduled change.

As for getting it down all the cylinders, I'm skeptical that all that is necessary. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm going to have to borrow a friend's borescope and check the cylinders.

If it only cleaned two cylinders, I don't see how that would have made it idle any smoother.

Getting it in different sides of the manifold is the best way ask anyone who's reputable.

I use this stuff only. I store my supra with this. I drain all oil, and all gas. I fill the entire block with it. I fill 1 quarter of the gas tank with this as well. Its the best stuff ive ever come across in all my years. I swear by this stuff and use it religously. Its great for everything I use for my lawn mowers and rider. Anything the can use this stuff I use it.

Went to a friend's shop, pulled the plugs again and checked the cylinders with his borescope. We could read "PM3" on all four pistons, and each looked about as clean as the next. In my experience the brake booster line alone seemed to have worked fine across all cylinders. But as Ghost Face Killa advised, getting it from multiple angles isn't a bad idea and couldn't hurt.

Wish I would have looked before the Seafoam so I could see the before and after.

Yeah take the vaccume line off that goes from the Master Cylinder to the intake manifold. Pour it down that.

11 days later:

All is still fine. I was very worried about using this on my high mileage motor after all of the horror stories I've read. When I heard that people with 300,000 mile motors used Seafoam with no problems as long as they didn't put it in the oil, I had to try it. And I don't regret it one bit.

60 miles have passed and the motor is better than it has ever been since it was new (I'm the second owner, and am related to the first owner & remember when he bought it.)

Still highly recommend this product. The DIY w/pics is coming soon.

i ran some through my intake manifold in 3 diffrent vac sources on my ranger, an in the crankcase, immediately changed the oil, it idled smoother but it didnt seem to make much else of a diffrencei think that has something to do with the stupid 4 pronged plugs the previous owner installed

i used it just before i switched to mobile 1 oil...i couldnt believe the difference the two together made!!! the rediculous amounts of smoke are a good thing so anyone who does this for the first time...dont worry. its not so much the seafoam coming out the exhaust, its more the carbon build up thats coming out. so smoke = success

think it'll help a siezed engine, if i pour some ontop of the pistons and let it sit??

I just used it last week on my F22B2, 255,041 miles, definitely idles alot smoother

I wouldn't pour it into the crank case until a few days before you change your oil...just somthin in mah head about it dissolving all those deposits and it floating around in your motor....

And I'll second the amazingly quiet motor comment, I was driving along, and 3 times I checked the RPM's to make sure it was still on when i was going down a hill....crazy stuff.
