Review: Royal Purple motor oil
I learned about Royal Purple by watching Horsepower TV. They changed the motor oil, trans fluid, and gear oil on an LS1 equipped Camaro SS and it gained something like 10 horsepower (dyno proven). It also reduced engine tempuratures and gas mileage.
This spring I switched from Castrol Syntec to Royal Purple 5w30 motor oil. The motor is a bone stock D15B7 Honda Civic motor that has near even compression across the cylinders, with an odometer reading of 191,780 miles.
After a tank of gas, I noticed a gas mileage increase of about 3mpg. The motor also seems to run smoother and slightly quieter than before. As for HP gains, I don't have access to a dyno, but my butt-dyno can tell a bit of a difference. The small power gain is nothing spectacular, but it's a high mileage stock D15B7 which is not known for it's power capabilities by any means. I didn't buy the oil for power increase anyway.
With the money I'll save on gas, and the extended life I'll expect to see out of the motor; I think the oil is well worth the $6.99/qt. that I paid for it at a local parts store.
The RP website suggests Racing 41 for the transmission, I'll give that a try later this spring with a detailed review.

all i have to say is congrats...but...i wouldnt recommend the butt dyno. if you can get access to a REAL dyno...that'll give you a waaaaaay better acurate reading than the butt dyno.

i prefer mobil 1 to any other oil, bang for the buck, unless you are a full blown race car, mobil 1 will do the trick

i heard about that episode i while back. but look at what they put it into. and LS1, our motors are hardly as responsive as that, especially to a fluid change.
and butt dyno's are affected by what the person wants to believe, not very reliabel considering people have imaginations, no offense to anyone claiming anything about their butt dyno or to thread starter.

I need to change my oil and then go with Mobil 1. I mean, after I change my oil, it seems like it's filthy in a week. In June ima change my oil with normal dino penzoil and run for about a week. Then i'll go and change it again to mobil 1. I think Royal Purple is probably better, but it is TOOO expensive. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-30 is about as rich as I go when it comes to oil.
I do need to change my tranny fluid too now that I think about it.

I know where you're coming from. I wasn't trying to compare my motor, or really any of our motors to an LS1. I didn't even expect to see any gains.
I understand about the butt dyno entirely. RP was designed to reduce friction better than any other oil out there. I'm sure some of it is marketing, but in many people's experience it has been nothing but true. Since one of the things Royal Purple promises is more horsepower, I had to somehow include it into my review. Since I'm too poor for a dyno (especially for just testing oils) I had to use my sense of "feel". It's not accurate at all, but the motor idles and runs much smoother now, that is noticeable. Meaning it must have reduced friction compared to my older oil, and reduced friction = less resistance on moving parts = more horsepower (though very little). In the case of the eight cylinder LS1, more moving parts = more friction.
But, I definitely know where you are coming from. The butt dyno can be easily fooled, and their "data" should be taken with a grain of salt.

I used to run amsoil, switched to castrol syntec cause the only dealer I could find was the motorcycle shop my friend works at. It was $50 for a case of 12 quarts, so we split the price and each got 6 quarts, but our intervals were different so it got to be a hassle.
