When welding's too much $$$, there's Victor

Some of you are aware that I've been having some problems with my exhaust
It was a full custom system until I had to go with an OEM cat to pass smog but cat back is still custom including this little section of flex pipe:

Well I think the braided metal is just worn out because once it heats up exhaust starts leaking out of there and it makes the car really loud. I also noticed in the winter from the steam that it's quite a bit of fumes and I could die of carbon monoxide posining if I got stuck in traffic.

So noise + death motivated me to get it fixed, but price (everyone was quoting me 1.5 hours labor to cut that one out and weld in a new one...$220) was getting rediculous.
So I decided to try my good friend Victor before shelling out for a whole new cat back. This is Victor:

I first found victor when I had my Accord. We meet again. I gave it a shot tonight; the car's sitting right now, curing. I'll idle it for 15 minutes at 11pm and then it should be done. This is what it looks like now:

Say it with me kids, Ghe-tto. If it quiets the bitch down though I'm sold. And all for 1% of the cost of a cut-and-weld.
I'll keep you posted.

Well I warmed it up to idle and drove around to my parking spot and it sounded quieter. I'll have to get it out on the open road before I'll know for sure. I'm playing golf tomorrow morning 1.5 hours away so that will give us some good highway time to figure out if it worked.

But so far so good

Yeah i decided to go this route because there are still two spring-bolt flange mounts on either side of the cat that flex pretty good. when I had a hi-flow cat hard welded in place I needed the flex but now that I have an OEM cat bolted in there are other flex joints.

But anyway after a 3hr road trip on Saturday the stuff is already coming off  They say to wrap it until it is 6 layers thick but they only give you enough gauze for about 3 layers (granted my pipe is 2.25"...)
So I don't know what to do now...might try cutting it out myself and just getting a straight pipe welded in to keep it cheap. Who knows.

This wasn't the "ScottiGee's Exhaust is for Sale" thread but ok...
$160 for the exhaust, plus a Random Tech hi-flow cat WITH a 2nd bung for OBD II

Going once...
