Searching for a 70-75 Datsun Z
Just sold my CRX today, and I'm flying out to San Fran on the 16th for good. Shortly thereafter, I'm going to be in the market for a new project. Simply put, I want a LS1-powered Z.
Basically, I'm looking for a rolling shell. Brakes, engine, wiring harness, all unnecessary. I do, however want a full interior and steering assembly. I'm not worried about surface rust, but I absolutely need a straight frame. If you or someone you know can help me to get this, please... call the number at the bottom of your screen. For just a few cents a day you coul-
wait a minute. Damned commercials.
Someone help me get a decent Z?

You're going the right direction to find a nice Z car for a reasonable price. I know i've seen a decent amount on the west coast for sale.
Have you looked into the emissions side of things? I'd assume it'd be close to exempt due to age but if you havn't looked into that you will for sure have to.
LS1's are fun motors in light cars. Lots of torque down low, make sure to get a LSD or weld the rear end.

Anything older than 1976 (75 and older) or a "special" vehicle (like my motorcycle) is smog exempt...
Like my truck.

I moved, and the new motor wasn't in the Z yet. It had to go. Got my money back on it, and it turned out ok. Bought the Celica as a daily driver for $500 and drove it home. Seems like a good enough reason to me. All it needs is a manual transmission swap.

I hate California's endless supply of rust free classic cars. My s2000 has more rust than that car it looks like.
Oh well, at least I don't have to deal with emissions.
