S13/SR20/RB20 Q's

I have always loved the fastback/180sx style with the flip up lights. My friend owned a nice white one with the stock KA, and it was fun as fuck. It was a SE with the "sunroof". I loved his car, but fuck did that stupid sunroof plug you have to take on and off annoy me. Almost to the point where I wouldn't want to own one. Now I know the coupe/silvia sibling has the glass power moonroof, which is much cooler. Can you swap the shit from the coupe to the fastback so a fastback can have the moonroof???

Also, what is the best SR20 out there? I hear the redtop from the S13 is the best all around for design and air flow. However I do like the S14 SR20 with the valve timing. Is it difficult to swap a S14 SR20 into an S13? Would it be like wiring up VTEC in a non VTEC Honda? Is the redtop that much of a better power plant?

What are the thoughts on the RB20 in an S13? Is there enough room for the I6 without much trouble? What are some pros and cons on an SR20 vs RB20?

Which model of S13 do you Nissan boys like the best? Coupe or Fastback? I like the coupe/silvia front end, but then if I got one I'd have to do the conversion. I love the back end of a 180sx more than the silvia. The kouki tails look so killer. I don't think I'd like the sileighty conversion though. I like the look of the pop ups on the fastback. All it would need is a nice aero front bumper for a fatty IC

Thanks dude, that did help.

Getting Skyline parts in Canada isn't too hard, there's at least a dozen R32's in our city alone, and it only has a population of about 700,000.

I would like to know more about the valve timing available in the S14+ still.

nah s14/14a/15 have a better plenum design. bigger injectors. VCT. overall better and can get one in far better condition than an s13 block. if u were to build. there tends to be less hassles with the newer blocks even though u'll put out around the same HP. given bore/stroke etc. is largely the same. or if u overbore and increase the bore and get a bit more displacement out of the pistons (which is mainly to get a good seal on old blocks...not so much displacement issues) unless u were to go for a proper displacement kit.

RB20's just plain old suck. 6 cyl for the lose. not for somehting like that
ur better off getting something more like an RB25DET. at least that will have some good oopmh. let alone the rb20 block is quite primitive. and development wasnt really underatken in the aftermarket scene considering the sr20 is already there.

whoever's saying that the s13 block is a 'better block' and making up shit like 'it flows better' is like the same pathetic loser that tell u to 'high flow a turbo'. fuckin idiots. they just are the same ppl that will try to justify ANYTHING they buy.

i'd never get an rb20

What are talking?...Sunroof plug? I have a sun roof and all i do is flip the handle and it pops up. I havent experienced any problems. But as far as motors go. Get a black-top S13. The red tops are nice and cheaper but i should have paid the extra for the black top. As a base any SR's are great. In a fastback i would get the red top or black top s13. S15's are a pain from what i have heard. Rb20's are junk imo. also RB motors are a little harder to swap than a S13 motor. If you have any questions at all feel free to PM me, i have gone threw just about anything that you may stumble across on the swap. Im sure you can PM kev or josh whenever need be as well. Stay off of 240sxforums.com there for every 1 knowledgable person there is 50 other dumbasses there giving false information. zilvia is great and i have had alot of luck there. Nico is good as well. stay off of ns.com too...ask kev

nah s14a and s15 blocks are pretty much identical. just that s15 run smaller coil packs. wiring is VERy slightly different. u get 480 cc injectors too......and metal gaskets that are the best in the range, at least u dont have to worry about the gaskets with them. plenum design from the s14 went to the s15. in terms of cams and vct. they are the same.

Yeah they pop up, but they don't slide. If you want it open all the way it has to come off and be put in the hatch. Worst idea ever IMO.

Thanks for the motor info. I've always liked the SR20's. How much would an S14 SR20 cost, and do you need mounts for a swap into an S13? I'm assuming you need a new ECU due to VCT. Do you guys have some good sites for Nissan stuff? OEM and aftermarket? What are some good aero sites?

I'm not gonna lie, but I think I'm getting bored of Honda. Not to mention RWD>FWD. I still love my car and Honda in general, but I feel like I need a change. So for now I want to be more educated in my other favourite car manufacturer

not really sure. most of the time we prefer to have them without it. less weight. and more rigidity right off the bat.
but if u were to get one...pfft...just leave it. u'd be more concern to see whether there's still a good seal etc. for it for the age of the car.

trust me, once u own one. ur really not gunna care about little things like that. little things are for honda's. not nissans

join our side of the board lol. we're alot more fun lol

Little things are for Honda.

Well I have a power sunroof, and I could never have a car without some sort of a sunroof. I think I am leaning more towards a Silvia over a 180sx.

Does anyone have any good interior shots of a S13? Modded or stock doesn't matter. I've never had a good look at them before.
