I think I raced a liar in a Nissan :) - Tuner-Junction

Hey Nissan dudes tell me if this makes sense. Keep in mind I know nothing about Nissans

On the way to work this morning I'm cruising a long and I see what looks like a Nissan 240 coming up behind me. You know the older ones with flip up lights, this car happened to be a coupe. He pulls up along my left and rolls his window down. I glance over and see it's right hand drive (pretty nifty). We're doing about 70mph so I can barely hear him but he yells over, "what you got". I replied SC type R. He looks very surprised and looks forward and floors it. Damn!! I wasn't expecting that (I hate when people get the jump on me). I pop it down a gear get on it. There was a ton of traffic so I only made it to the top of 3rd gear (very quick race, if you can call it that). However, by that time I caught up and advanced about 1/2 CRX length. Here's the deal, the dude had some huge f'ing inter-cooler up front, and when he jumped on it I could hear his turbo spool and blow off when he shifted. So I'm thinking the car must have been worked in some way. However, when I pulled up along side of him (again) and asked him how much boost he was running he claimed it was a bone stock SR20DET swap.

Is this really possible?? Doesn't that engine in stock trim only make around 205hp?? There's no way with me putting down roughly 280whp in a 2300lbs car that the race would have been that close. I figure at the very least he probably raised his boost (hence the big inter-cooler). I would imagine I would put a whoopin' on a stock SR20DET. Plus a little after the tiny little duel the road opened up and we had a real chance to go at it but he declined.

What do you Nissan guys think?? Please educate me

hmmmmm......he's in a pretty light chassis also. although its prone to understeer, it can be improved. but yeah they are pretty light chassis also.

larger intercooler.....well basically everyone has one. its like ur first mod besides an exhaust or something if u will John. we all run bigger ones cos the side mounts are so effin small they arent very good. they heat soak alot easier.

he may have a bone stock sr20det. but that doesnt really answer how much boost he was running.

even considering that. say he's runnin a 'stock' sr20det swap. im not sure if he's runnin a t25 or t28. but simply upping boost for arguments sake to something conservative. he'd at most be around 220-230 hp.

i think he just got the jump on you. they're very good engines. but dont think too much of it. u should beat him still.

that is of course if he's tellin u the truth.
mind you, sr20's are so fuckin easy to build.

it would be hard to say what power figures he'd be running, depending on what SR20DET he had.......if its a s13 SR20DET (redtop/blacktop) (200hp) they run 0-60mph in 6.18sec and 1/4mile in 14.3sec completely stock! not sure on standard boost for the s13's but i have read they are around 0.7+ bar....

if he had a s14 SR20DET (220hp) (blacktop - came with VCT (variable cam timing)....they run 0-60mph in 6.3sec and 1/4mile in 13.6sec - factory ratings running 0.7+bar...

if he had a s15 SR20DET (250hp) (blacktop - came with VCT (variable cam timing)....they run 0-60mph in 5.6sec and 1/4mile at 13.9sec with boost set to 0.9bar...(gear/diff ratio play a part in the 1/4mile difference)

t25 bush bearing turbos vs t28 bush/ball bearing turbos, curb weight, gear/diff ratios all make a big difference in each model silvia.......i have seen some manual transmission versions come with auto diffs (lsd), giving them better initial acceleration...

he could have had the factory plumb back system blocked off or venting to atmos, giving it that flutter sound when lifting off the throttle/shifting....bigger spool sound can be due to larger turbo like mine makes or he has a metal intake pipe instead of the standard rubber tube....the different piping make a large change to the acoustics...

btw, the s13 t25 turbo can produce around 280hp on the very limit (1.3+bar) and the s14/s15 t28 can produce 300hp at (1.3+bar)....mind you both turbos wont last long at all!!

hope that answered some questions, if only he gave you a run......you wouldnt have needed this thread

lmao. actually i tell ppl i dont want to know that they never saw me nor my car. and that the car never existed and i call them out for smokin crack cos its utter bullshit lol.

he is not stock but not far from it.....

hes got apexi exhaust, test pipe, blitx downpipe, inter cooler, greddy BOV, 15psi boost,mlk head gasket, arp studs, hks acuwaiter( spelling not right), i dont no if he ever got his greddy e-manage in, welded diff, koyo radiator

Fastest pass i know that he made was 12.54 in the 1/4 mile

Ask him if he remembers my CRX on Rt15 and Rt80 about a month ago. Traffic was too heavy to get a clean race in but I think I was slightly quicker.

I'm interested to hear if he remembers my car.
