What does it take to get an sr20 to pass emissions in PA? anyboyd know from first hand experience?

I heard with a good cat and if you run it a little lean, these motors will pass in most states. I dont think you'll pass the visual inspection though. SR's = teh illegal

Oh yeah, in PA if you drive the car for less than 5000 miles per year than you're exempt from the sniffer.

If you have a friend that does inspections maybe he could hook you up.

the kid i'm buying it from has a maryland inspection on his car. is it that illegal to have an SR in your car. I would think as long as it passes smog it should be fine. i have an S-afc in my closet i guess i could always hook it up and lean out the car should i buy it.

the sr20det is illegal since it never came in the 240sx. i dont think its hard to pass the sniffer test but its the visual thats the problem.

maybe you can pass the visual by getting it inspected by an idiot emissions tech who doesnt know wtf an sr20 really is lol.

I dont think its illegal to swap the k20 into an eg/ek. Thats because the k20 did come in US production cars and will pass emissions. As long as you use all the emission equipment and transmission from the dc5/ep3 you should be fine. Im pretty sure I'm right but correct me if I'm wrong.

The sr20det(rwd) swap into a 240sx is illegal because it never came in a production car in the US.

edit:btw the engine must be from the same year or newer of your car. which means you cant go from obd2 -> obd1.

damn do you think i should still buy this car then? so i would need to buy a bosot controller and install my s-afc before i could get it inspected.

it's a 1989 240sx with an sr20det redtop from that same year silvia. i dont mind dishing out 200-300 bucks for this shit to pass inspection

i think 89 silvias came with the ca18det.

like i said the sr20det never came in an us production car therefore not dot/epa approved. sr = illegal

i'm asking around now. turns out a kid i went to HS with works at a shop and might be able to get me stickers. and a guy ph philly240sx.com might have a connection in doyelstown which is 30 minutes away. if i get the ok i'll def buy the car

haha i'm looking at one in baltimore for 5K. it's a different red color. a more metalic color. and the motor looks cleaner. and btw i found a hookup 3 miles from my house that will pass the cars inspection. if i don't get this car i'm getting the one in jersey. either way we will be brothers and i'll have the car i've dreamed of since i got into imports.
