swapping a RB26DETT into a 240?

how smart would it be to swap a RB26DETT into a 240? does it make sense at all to do that? would it even work? how much would that wind up costing? im just curious cause i saw a decent 240 for sale on autotrader and was curious about an engine swap.

kinda depends on your definition of hard/worth it.

IIRC, you need to us a 2.5l car front crossmember, and an rb25 cars tranny and tranny x member and it basically bolts in. Buuuuuuuut, the turbos/mani hit the steering shaft so you have to do something w/that.

So you end up with a car that has slightly odd balance, but HUGE potential for power.

But..you also end up with an engine thats hard to find parts for, especially oem parts for routine maintenance.

IMHO, it'd be smarter to do something like a 2jz swap, but that would probably be harder too.

actually lemme correct myself, the car in my sig has a RB25DET, which is the same thing, minus a turbo charger

anyone know how much those engines run? if i could get a 1995 240 for about 4 k, and have another 8 or 9 k to fuck around with, that would be pretty sick.

this local shop down the street from me does it all time time, backyardproductions or some shit like that I will post a link. This guy thats a local legend around here named conroy had a s13 hatch with a k turbo set up and he was running good times. They stole it and he ended up getting a gold s14 coupe. Droped in a sr20 and after driving it around for awhile sold the engine and set up and got a ka-t set up that blew it out the water. Eventually he blew it and was concidering another ka since they are so cheap but he ended up getting an rb.

The RB in the s14 is demonic!!! thats the only way to describe it. Im driving my accord down the road and this gold blur just flies by me and I hear the blow off. So im like o shit that thing is crazy so I floor it to catch up and ask him what he has. Im flooring it and the guy finally catches a red and im flying down the street just so I can catch the red in time. Thats how fast that shit was. I finally catch the red roll down the windows and go OMG that thing is riddiculously fast is that an sr or a ka and he goes thats childs play. I have an rb and floors it and disapears into the horizon.

the rb is a scary engine, like if youve ever been around a car that has riddiculous amount of power im not talking about like 400ish range to the wheels which is alot imo but REAL POWER. Its fucking scary, the rb is the type of engine that when you build it and your trying to drive around slowly its like trying to contain a wild beast the power is there and if your foot slips on the gas just a little the cars going to break loose

the ending to that is the funniest fucking thing i have ever heard lol. tha rep.

but yah im gonna do some more research on it first. this is of course just an idea you know. i want to try to have something unique, with whatever car i decide on. the only thing is, i dont know of any shops around me that i think would be able to do such a thing. then again, i live in la, so theres gotta be something around here. i was just lookin for a ballpark estimate of how much a swap would be, cause then i can see if it would really be worth it or not. otherwise an hks exhaust, some new wheels, and itr honda badges shall be the next thing i buy for the rsx.

to me, its not worth it. to some ppl it is

its all relative....just like the rest of life. yes its been done many times before, but no i personally wouldnt do it.

i always believe in, "materially, always be prepared to destroy anything you love"

to me....i really couldnt be bothered if i get headfucks with puttin that thing in.......let alone we get sr20's here stock........i dont get enough mileage as it is.....but im not complaining, at least i dont have a supercharged 5.7 L V8 that does only 14's.......*cough* our domestic cars *cough*. so yeah. its all relative man. but dont get too far ahead of yourself.

yah i know, this idea just sprung from my head right now, and i was curious about the swap. i also wanted to learn about teh 240's since i know nearly nothing about em. i also dont believe im knowledgeable enough to concoct something like this, nor be able to get this whole thing started.

rb26 into an s-chassis is hella expensive and is a pretty difficult swap. The swap can run up to $10-12k.

I know you need to use:
rb25 tranny
rb25 oil pan(or custom)
custom mounts
custom driveshaft
ka->rb26 engine harness

you can get the mounts, driveshaft, and engine harness from mckinney motorsports. and i also think you have to switch to a single turbo setup because of clearance issues.

there's a lot of people who have given up on the swap and just went sr20 or ka-t lol

haha finally an answer i have been looking for. yah that does sound like a lot of work, sr20 seems to be the better choice with this one. if i ever just wound up hating my money, i would go for an rb26 swap
