This is to help out people that are new to torrents. Since I spend so much timing up and downloading stuff via torrents I figured Id offer my help.

I also notice on my torrent client that there is an update and announce stat listed what do those mean?

If I am dling a torrent from box torrents and in my client my ratio is 1.895 why does my profile on box still say 0.00 with an unhappy looking fellow next to it?

leech is kinda like that. since the way BT works is you dl and up at the same time. so a leech is someone who is doing just that. once your file gets completed you get listed as a seeder.

if you right click on the torrent you are dling and select "properties" there are check boxes that say "enable DHT" "peer exchange". if you leave those unchecked your ratio will go up. DHT and peer exchange are people getting the same files without the tracker. since their dls arent being tracked there is no way for the tracker (box in this case) to know that you are uping the file.

also about box there are 2 places your stats are listed. they are always listed on the left side of the window. but if you click on your user name you get another stats list. there you can see what your leeching and seeding (make sure that the files you are sharing are listed there) also your ratio and up and dl stats. this is a more updated view. for example on the left of my window it says Ive uped 553.13gig but in the more detailed view it says 560.17gig.

in the more detailed veiw it will also list your ip address. make sure that is correct. if it is then go to "profile" on the left under the heading "control panel". there you can lock that ip addy.

when I checked my profile detail it has me at 1.718 ratio so I think I'm okay

once it's all done I'll seed for a while (overnight) to boost my ratio some before I DL the 2nd and 3rd seasons

I use demonoid....looks like they are finally starting to bring the site back up after being down from hardware issues

i pretty much only DL anime and music. im not a member on demonoid, but i hear people like it. plus i know a bunch of people on other forums that trade invites.
