well that was a crappy article - they would make a suggestive statement, and then make a "on the other hand" statement to contradict it.

'The last 5 serious head injuries were sustained by HJC helmet wearers, but then again most of the riders out here wear HJCs, but HJC helmets may not be safe, but they are deemed safe by SNELL and DOT, but SNELL approved doesn't mean good for racing, but maybe that just means the features are not designed for race use....and bla bla bla

yes it's a cheap helmet, I just bought one for autoX where it's only going to protect me from hitting my head on my A-pllar. But if I was racing my motorcycle on a track I would definitely invest in something better.

a well fitted hjc helmet is just as safe as any shoei, suomy, arai, scorpion or any other brand you wanna throw out there. the "get what you pay for" part is the comfort, noise level, wieght, ventilation and "bling factor." buy a helmet that fits your head and is dot approved and your safe. race track officials arent the leading authority on helmet safety.

your head isn't something to mess with, i wouldn't want to take any chances with it - no matter how tight my budget is.

well said. the more expensive helmets have better piercing protection. but as far as basics go. all helmets that are both snell and dot approved fall in the same category of protection

Yes they arent the helmet safety authority, but makes you wonder, I wouldnt buy an HJC after they were banned, that is why I have a Shoei.

Yes what you said is true, comfort and weight and other features is what the price reflects but still would you rather crash in a Daewoo or a Mercedes when they both passed the crash test ratings?

thats not a fair comparison, it's apples to oranges. how about "would you rather be a crash test in an acura or a honda." the acura is more comfortable, has more options and turns more heads, but they're essentially the same thing. if wearing a shoei makes you feel safer than more power to you. but the dot and snell memorial institute(the actual helmet authorities) both say that a $75 bell helmet from walmart are just as safe.
