South Dakota bans abortion
Quote:
PIERRE, S.D. - South Dakota’s governor on Monday signed into law a bill banning nearly all abortions, setting up a court fight aimed at challenging the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States.
The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless it was necessary to save the woman’s life. It would make no exception in cases of rape or incest.
Planned Parenthood, which operates the state’s only abortion clinic, in Sioux Falls, has pledged to challenge the measure in court.
Rounds issued a written statement saying he expects the law will be tied up in court for years and will not take effect unless the U.S. Supreme Court upholds it.
“In the history of the world, the true test of a civilization is how well people treat the most vulnerable and most helpless in their society. The sponsors and supporters of this bill believe that abortion is wrong because unborn children are the most vulnerable and most helpless persons in our society. I agree with them,” Rounds said in the statement.
The Legislature passed the bill after supporters said the recent appointment of conservative justices John Roberts and Samuel Alito have made the U.S. Supreme Court more likely to overturn its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. South Dakota lawmakers believe U.S. President George W. Bush may have a chance to appoint a third justice in the years before the legal battle over the South Dakota law reaches the nation’s highest court.
U.S. Supreme Court must approve ban
The abortion ban would take effect July 1, but a federal judge is likely to suspend the ban during the legal challenge. That means it would never take effect unless the state gets the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and wins.
Rounds has said abortion opponents have already started offering money to help the state pay legal bills for the anticipated court challenge. Lawmakers also said an anonymous donor has pledged $1 million to defend the ban, and the Legislature set up a special account to accept donations for legal fees.
Under the law signed by Rounds, doctors could get up to five years in prison for performing an illegal abortion. The measure also contains language that the Legislature finds that scientific advances since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973 have demonstrated that life begins at conception.
Rounds issued a technical veto of a similar bill passed two years ago because it would have wiped out all existing restrictions on abortion while the bill was tied up for years in a court challenge. The statement he issued Monday noted that this year’s bill was written to make sure existing restrictions will be enforced during the legal battle.

Cliffs: Governor passes abortion ban for any case except to save the mother, supreme court still has to pass it (not happening any time soon hopefully), and people in my state are still retarded.

Bible humping idiots. Whats stopping you from driving across the state line and doing it anyway. Thats the problem, they just SAY you cant do something when there is actually nothing there to stop you from doing it.
Just like if they were to ban it in the country, it would just go black market and cause more tragedy than they think they can prevent.

Religion ruined this species of Human-being man. We are already too far along to ever be saved in terms of getting rid of this fucking ignorance due to religion.
I just wish I could go back in time and slit Jesus' throat and get that whore Mary to confess she was a dime-bag hooker and always would be... that would end all of this shit.

good Im not a "bible humping idiot" but my views are against abortion. Dont be to confident that it wont pass in congress because the votes have always been close and now alito has taken the place of the swing voter.

Im sure it could pass congress. People with "knowlege" that isnt what the main stream propaganda feeds us are burdended with this knowlege only because so many choose not to know. Once you basicly unplug yourself from the matrix of shit there is no going back into ignorance. Its like being a bird in a cage and you got out and saw your world from the outside and realized it much bigger than you ever imagined. And once that happens, all the things you thought were important actually dont mean shit when compared to "what you know now".
People are stuck in their little world, many dont want out and many more dont know they are in it because of the prechewed shit we are fed everyday that keeps us ignorant to whats really going on. Life as a humanbeing today is much more complex and "big picture" than the majority of the people on this planet realize, and are stuck bitching and killing each other over issues that are as old as civilization, while the truly empowered and enlightended people control the rest with need to know information that keeps life simple and black and white for the masses to fret over.
While we argue over the obvious answer to let a woman choose to have a fucking kid pop out of her vag, much more important things go unnoticed that are only hidden because fools choose not to look.

religion didnt ruin the world of man the organization of it did. Religion is something that is primal and meant to be taught in a certain way once you interweave it with a hiearchial structure such as the vatican or what ever you introduce elements to religion that shouldnt be in their like politics etc.

Doesn't matter what way you cook it my man, religion ruined man. No other way to put it or blame it on something else, ultimately it was religion. Religion causes major divisions, causes people to feel they are surperior, causes people to fear the non-exist and act certain ways due to false beliefs.
I do agree without religion 90% of this world would go mad and kill each other/themselves, but that is exactly what I think needs to happen.

Anything that can increase your power and influnence or wealth will be consolidated into onething rather than many. The term history is written by the winners, means if I win truth can be whatever I want. Religion is nothing more than story time at its most basic and over thousands of years it becomes ABSOLUTE, when there is nothing absolute about it. To blame organization is pointless as it is inevitable, what you blame is the flaw in people to accept things as truth without doubt and asking why and prove it or atleast attempt to prove it. To accpet things presented by MEN as fact based on faith is dangerous, as history can show us this over and over where people just accept and then suffer greatly because of blind faith. Also the fact that most who present these truths do not actually believe them the way they want you to believe them. Fuck faith in itself, you cannot just go around having faith that shit will be ok, this is why so many people dont give a fuck when others are making choices for them.
