well i try not to do anything with fortune telling because its against my religion..but i guess readig my horoscope is pretty bad
like ill read my horoscope, but i refuse to do the tarot card thing or palm reading. i say i make my own damn future...i dont need someone to tell me what will happen while i just end up trying to see if itll happen or try to prevent it. it just kinda hinders you from living.

lol that usually seems to be the case with alot of kids whose parents are like that they are usually one of the two extremes either really open to it or completely against it.
Heres my take on it, with fortune telling and all that kind of stuff its kind of really hard to tell because there are alot of fakes and con artists out there. They know what to say to you that will get a response. What the fakes do is play off your reactions. They start off with something vague you give a response and they work you based on your response and pick up little things about you by looking at you. Those kind of people are pretty quick and they have been doing the con for a long time.
Example, you walk in and they are already analyzing you, they see a tan line they will say some shit about you and the out doors or some crap like that. They will say some shit like this week you will meet some one new and in all honesty what week in your life has gone by where you havent met some one new? Shit like that.
On the other hand I have seen things in my life where I do beleive in certain things. Im not close minded to these kind of things because when I was in highschool I was a curious person. I have a strong catholic backround but I liked to explore other religions and other beleifs because how are you going to know your faith is the right faith when you havent even glimpsed at the others? In my searching and exploration Ive stumbled upon alot of things some of them cool and alot I wouldnt wish on any one.
As a short answer do I beleive in psychics palm readers etc? Yes but at the same time you have to know that there are people out there that are fakes and out to get money. You have to be weary of those people and dont think that they are the only ones out there. Theres more to it then them.

I think most organize religions beleive in the existence of psychics etc but they all preach against people exploring that because it can get you into some trouble that you wont know how to handle. They could take two roads in dealing with alot of things one of which is the traditional old world view where you would just learn from some one else who deals with what you deal with and you know whats going on or you can completely ignore it and life will be awkward but normal. Most people take awkward but normal

definately, that and a where did we come from/ the universe thread.
and about your comment, i definately agree. i feel my religion is immensly outdated. my girlfriend and i were casually joking about marriage and what would happen if we did. She is not orthodox, but has traditional beleifes, as do i. its traditional for women to not take part in prayer, which i find a disgrace, but she chooses to worship (on the rare occasion she does) at a place where men and women cant sit together.
i also condemn orthodox rabbis who will not acknowledge change in our world and who will not accomodate the changes. while we were joking, i told her that if we were to marry, i would not get married by a Rabbi who beleived strongly in the old tranditions. it was somewhat of an argument but more of a discussion on what we personally felt.
i just feel strongly that if you beleive in your religion, you can worship/act whoever you see fit, and follow the laws as you see fit (i dont keep kosher and choose to eat what i want) but you should always respect the beleifs of others within and outside of your religion.
therefore, i am open to all religions and bleiefs, but still choose to remain within my own, and to whatever extent i deam to be fit for me as a person.

the problem with some of the traditions of judism is that alot of the people dont understand that the tora(sp?) isnt meant to be taken literally. some of the practices and rules in the old testament arent so much about faith but about health concerns and they wrap it with faith so that people will follow it. For example the reason you guys cant eat unclean meats is because way back then they couldnt cook it properly so if you ate it you got a shit load of parasites. Circumcision may have nothing to do with the covenant of abraham at all but it was more sanitary that way. I could point out a handfull of other examples.
The problem with orthodox judism is the same problems that many religions face. The times are different and the religions need to change doctrine to suit the times. What worked so many years ago doesnt work now. Also when people as a whole become smarter and have more freedoms they start questioning why do we do this etc etc. Organized religion doesnt have the liberty to say this is done this way because we say so. That may still work for alot of people but for a large amount that sumply doesnt cut it.
The vatican has started to take measures to solve these problems of religion and modern times. Its becoming a pretty liberal religion.

i definately agree. im always arguing with my gf becasue i love ribs and her parents dont eat pork, in or out the house, but yet, they bring shrimp in to the house regularly, which is also unkosher... its just not right in my oppinion. both me and my friend michael are pretty against organized religion. although i will never admit it to my gf, i dont agree with her parents beleifs in most cases and they are kind of closed minded as far as religion goes. that doesnt mean i dont accept it. part of who i am is shaped becasue i was sent to 2 Jewish private schools, one for elimentary, and one for high school, but from 6th grade to 10th grade, i went to an orthodox catholic school. i wil more than likely send my kids to a jewish day school as i feel its important to give them a choice in the matter, since inever wanted to have my religious beleifs dictated by my parents.
basicaly my beleif is this:
there is no god or "being" out there, our world is one of science and matter. what we see is what is there. if you cant see it or explain it logically, it most likely is not there, but there are things, scientific anomilies, that with our knowledge of the universe, can not be explained at this time, but ultimately, they can be.

i think i haved moved from ancient human beliefs such as gods, healers, psychics, spirits/ghosts, etc. even tho i have had a few encounters with very strange paranormal events, i do not jump to the conclusion that it was a ghost or apparition, etc. so no, i do not trust/believe in psychics.
