winter project, need advice

okay, i just got back from the local pick-n-pull, found a '90 integra with the same engine as mine, but auto tranny(mine's standard) that i can pull out for $90. I'm planning on pulling it, bringing it back to my place, and re-building it as a race engin over the winter, without touching the engin in my car. Then I'm going to swap the two.

the only problem with that is that I have no idea wher to start, this is just something I've wanted to do for years. Any hints, reading material suggestions, online resources would be much appreciated.

You planning on going turbo or staying N/A? That will effect parts selection.

Actually, do you need help with the actual building of the engine or parts selection? I used to have a good how-to link on engine building but I can't remember what it was now.

i'm thinking turbo, but will need help with the actual building of the engine. I'll also need to learn about which parts/brands are best too, and which parts of te engine I'll need to upgrade.

The engine in my car runs fine right now, so no rush what-so-ever. I can take my time and learn to do it right. (But the funny thing is the engine I'm picking up has about 65000 less km on it and looks in way better shape. The car got into an accident, rear end got smashed in.)

So anyhow, back on topic...I'll need to learn it all from the ground up, all I have right now is a haynes manual, but I'm a quick study.
