Question AC Turns on out of no where while driving?

I have a 00 Gsr and the AC keeps truning on out of nowhere. I will be sitting at a light and it will just turn on. It sounds as if it turns on only when the Radiotor fans turn on after the Radiator relay kicks in. Any reason as to why its doing this? How can I stop it without having to disconnect my ac?

Are you running your defrost when this happens? And how are you sure your a/c pump is kicking on, have you physicaly looked at it to see if the clutch is engaging?

my switch Is off and pushed out and not illuminated, I feel it turn on because when Im driving the car just gets slugish as it would when I normally turn the AC on ( by pressing the AC button), so I know the button is working fine cause it turns on the ac when pushed in and turns off when pushed out. Also I did a test I left my cabin fans on 3 and with the AC button off and the air was basically the outside temperature as it would be with no AC. Then out of no where I feel the air get as cold as it would be if the AC was on. It seems to only turn on when the radiator fans turn on after the thermostat turns them on.

Does it happen often? You need to look at the ac compressor when it happends to see if that is reall whats going on. If you start your car and look you will notice that the very end of your pulley isn't spinning with your a/c off, then turn it on and you will notice that the piece on the end(the clutch) will be spinning. Now turn your a/c off and next time it happends stop and look under your hood to see if your a/c clutch is engaged.

sorry it took so long to reply. Yes the AC clutch engages. I saw it I never noticed that part on the AC until I actually looked at it. It sits still while th epulley turns with the crank when off and starts spinning with the pulley when the ac is turned on and radiator fans turns on.

Thats a pretty odd problem, are you sure you don't have your defrost on when it does this?

If not then there must be something going on in your a/c controls, or maybe some wires coming out of the controls are somehow making contact. I would check and see what TSBs(Technical Service Bullentins) are out for that car.
