Project RX-7 (lots of pics) - Tuner-Junction

so since theres no Mazda forum and im probably the only Mazda owner here, ill post this thread in here. this project is my 1988 Mazda RX-7 TurboII. bought it with 140k on it running well with slight simple issues for $1500 earlier this year. drove it for a couple months then it started to develop an exhaust leak. so i parked it and started doing work to it. initially my goal was 400rwhp, but since then my goals have changed. ive decided to pull out the old 13BT and replace it with a 13B-REW from a twin turbo FD RX-7. its an easier motor to work on, and i think im gonna shoot for a higher hp goal. and who knows, i might stuff that old 13B into a miata or something in the spring lol. here are some progress shots leading up to how it sits now. the motor thats in there will be gone shortly (as soon as i can afford the new one). pay no mind to the "gauge pod" its from the previous owner.

I love the old Turbo II...... reminds me of high School. I actually wouldn't mind getting a hold of one. Are they normally that cheap or did you luck out??

is the newer RX7 engine a direct bolt in or do you need to play with the mounts? Also, is there much info of these swaps online?

usually for a turbo 2 in good shape theyre around 3500-4000. i got a good deal on mine cause it had an idle issue. but it was simple shit, so i fixed that quickly. the mounts are totally different from the 13bt thats in there and the 13b-rew in the newer rx7. there are mout kits that you can get for the motor/trans. theyre around 400. but i hear the quality isnt the best. so im gonna order them anyway and see for myself. worst case ill have my buddy that owns a machine shop make me something of higher quality then return the prrefab ones i bought. theres a good amount of info available on the swap. but it isnt very popular. the 13bt can make up to 450rwhp (or so) which is fine for what most people want. i however, want more than that so i need the motor to have higher hp possibilities.

I'd love to get my hands on a non-convertible FC. I've seen a few for sale around here in reasonable condition around here (New England) in the sub-$2k price range, but I won't have any cash until I sell my BMW.

This looks like a fun project though, keep us posted man!
