My Build

So I sent the block to the shop the other week and I'm wondering what you guys think of where I'm going with it. My goal is between 300-350whp dd and I would be really happy with 450whp for race. right now I'm only concerned with the engine portion. Engine is a d16y8

Block
Scat forged H-beams
SRP forged rods 75.50mm 9:1 with the thermal top coat
piston to wall clearence of .0028 top ring .015 2nd ring .016

Block guard
toga hv oil pump

Head
Ferrea Valves 1mm over both I/E
Ferrea Springs, retainers
I was thinking skunk2 stage1 n/a cam(if you have suggestions lmk) max rpm I'm looking for is 8600
full port polish

hayabusa itb's
garret gt30r
50 or 75 shot of nos up to full boost
hondata or p28 chipped with chrome or neptune
walbro 250 fuel pump
msd 6a
equal length mani

theres more but I'm really concentrating on the engine at the moment. if you think of something I'm forgeting or have any suggestions or opinions feel free to post.

I'd probably skip the ITB's jusre because they're more hassle than it's worth on a boosted setup.

I'm not really sold on block guards either, i'd almost rather have a stock block. I think you're going to need a good tune to keep it together at 450hp on stock sleeves. It's not impossible, but i've heard the d-series have a tendency to move and pop the head gasket.

I can't remember who, I think Comp Cams, but they have a boost specific cam. Just go with the stage 2 because stage 1 isn't going to do much (and a lot of people report good gains with stage 2).

If you're going to put down those power levels you should also look into a LSD. I recomend the OBX (after you take it apart and put it together right). If you don't want to put that work in, a Quaffie is what it's a copy of and those are assembled right.

Yea the Itb's are more of personal preference. theyre getting done
yea at high boost they do seem to move a little, but that should be helped with the block guard.
I've been finding that people are making some pretty good numbers with stage 1 na came b/c of duration. but if I find a better came capable of making more power I'll take it. I might just have to have one made. I'll look into comp, thanks

that tranny is getting completely rebuilt with different gearing. and yes an lsd will be a must.

so just a little update the bottom end is done the head will be done shortly. project got put on a small hold. We had our second child a couple of weeks ago on the 27 of September at 1:55am. she was a wopping 8lbs 5oz. why is she wopping cuase the mom is 4' 10" and 110lbs. she was a pound heavier than her brother. her name is Mary Elizabeth Williams.

right now I'm focusing on getting the engine back together and running right. should be back together by the end of the year. with the wife not working right now money is going to bills and not the car. I am in the middle of building a few of the parts though.

Don't forget a cometic head gasket and arp head studs. When you tighten the head gasket, go over it a few times. It takes a bit to seat them. The head studs will help with lift.
I have a block gaurd and have no complaints. Alot of the honda tech guys complain of over heating, but I think its other issues. They also bitch about cometic gaskets, but its because they torgue them to honda specs which only call for 2 times around, thats not enough with them gaskets. You have to go over it a few times for it to completely compress it.
Congtats on the kid, See ya around
