DIY: Smoked Tails

This was written up strictly for the RSX. Any other vehicles may very in the process.

In posting pictures of my car up on the forum i've had alot of requests from people interested in how i tinted my taillights. So i'm making this thread to give everyone another option. Something other than going out and spending a bundle to get them done. I was going to post this in the exterior/interior modifications section but i figure the DIY section would be better.

The product i used it called Night Shades. I have not found a store that sells the stuff. I only know that you can order it off the net. If you follow the link you can purchase it. I used this stuff with the help of a friend to do my taillights. *Thanks Mike!* I also want to correct some things that i posts in other threads about this product. Alot of people asked me how the finished product looked, the texture. Well, to be honest it looks kinda ruff. The texture of it feels ruff but as you can see in the picture it accually looks pretty shiney until you get right up next to it and give it a good stair.

If you want to see pictures of them lit up - click here - and - click here -.

However, i have found the fix to the ruff texture. Now i have not seen a picture or a car with both products used but if you read here about it it sounds pretty promising. It is another option that you can try if you want. I am happy with the way mine look as of now. One day i might try this option if i feel the need to.

Anyways so heres what you do.

1. Buy Night Shades

Also optional is clear laquer. If you use this option be sure and READ THE LINK! I put 7 coats on my tails and thay are dark without this laquer. The site says the laquer will make it even darker. So if you use this option make sure and understand that.

2. Take off your taillight off the car.
3. Mask off the edges so that you are only spraying the part you want tinted.
4. Spray a mist of night shades on the taillight. I DO MEAN ONLY A MIST!

If you spray this stuff like its a paintcan its going to run! When it dries you WILL see runs in the finished product. My tails have 7 light misted coats of this stuff on. Also you want to do both taillights at the same time to keep an even coat. BE SURE AND LET DRY BETWEEN COATS! If you do 7 light misted coats of this stuff on both tails you should have a half a can left, maybe even a little more than that. Once dry proceed to step #5.

5. Put the tailights back on the car.

If you guys have any other questions about it let me know and i'll update with the answers. Enjoy!
