JDM CRX SiR front end fitment

  • JDM SiR front bumper (from now on I will refer to the SiR as EF8)
  • JDM EF8 bumper support (very light compared to USDM)
  • Some sort of EF8 hood, either steel JDM OEM, or carbon fiber.
  • JDM EF8 headlights
  • JDM EF8 blinkers (next to headlights)
  • JDM EF8 front bumper lights
  • JDM EF8 fender markers
  • JDM EF8 fenders (although you could modify your USDM see this DIY...DIY installing JDM CRX sidemarkers)
  • EF6 or EF7 front tie bar (sometime called radiator support)
Things that make it puuurrrrrfect :
  • EF8 yellow fog lights (these may have been on different CRX models around the world but are mostly found on JDM)
  • JDM EF8 front chin spoiler (Password JDM also sells a nice aftermarket piece that will fit)
Let's get started.
  1. Remove all your USDM front end components, including...
    • Front bumper & beam
    • all the lights
    • hood
    • fenders (we're gonna assume you have the JDM fenders to replace the USDM)
    • front upper tie bar (save the latch if your tie bar didn't come with one)
Obviously mine was a little more stripped than yours may be.

2. Your order of installation may be different then mine but now I bolted up the EF6/7 front tie bar and secured the cable to the latch.
3. Bolt in the headlights. We will talk about wiring towards the end.
4. Attach the JDM front fenders, they will bolt up just like the USDM ones.
5. install the new hood. With the EF6/7 front upper tie bar there is absolutely NO shimming or playing with the hood latch at all!!! It completely lines up perfect. This is the real deal, there is a lot of miscommunication out there regarding the hood latch. Get yourself a EF6/7 tie bar and you will have ZERO issues.
6. Install the front blinkers, the ones next to the headlights. They are kind of tricky because part of it slides onto the headlight assembly. This is how the JDM ones look more "one piece" then the USDM ones.
7. Once this far you can test close your hood and see if everything lines up nice.

8. Now, everything up to here has been pretty straightforward. Well it's about to get ugly. Right now your are ready to test fit the bumper. However when you do you are in for a surprise. The front bumper installed on a USDM chassis will sag. The reason for this is the bolt holes do not completely line up. See my test fitment below.

This is a huge deal and it seems that each USDM car has a different level of severity. Mine was real bad, the measures I had to take were drastic.
So we need to raise the bumper up on the chassis. To do this there are two solutions.
a) You can elongate the holes which attach the bumper to the car. There are 2 on each side, by elongating them with a file you make the bumper slightly "adjustable". This will allow you to raise fit it accordingly. See below.

You will also need to file this as well. These little hooks help in mounting the bumper. You can hang the unit by the hooks so you can use your hands to drive the bolts in.

b) This is one way to get the bumper to line up. However, yours may be really bad like mine. I realized no matter how much I tried to file there was no way I was going to be able to elongate the holes enough. I had to actually shift the entire bumper up about 1 inch.
Basically, there are two holes on the bumper support that line up into two holes on the chassis, see below.

To get the bumper up about an inch I improvised on the bolt locations. This can be difficult to imagine, please see the drawing below.

By doing this the bumper moved upward on the chassis and lined up perfectly. Consequently I had to grind those little hooks off, I wasn't able to file them or bend them out of the way. Once completed she looked like this.

9. Now that everything is on and lining up correctly up need to wire the lights. Wiring them - it's a snap. The USDM wiring has 4 wires per headlight. High Beam: Black wire for ground, and correct me if I'm wrong, red wire with yellow line for the high beam itself. The low beam also has a black ground wire, and a red wire with a green line for low beam. Here's what you do. Pick a ground wire, it doesn't matter.. I used the high beam ground wire.. Next, take the high beam wire, and the low beam. Connect them to your harness on your SiR Bulb.. Notice how the bulb has 3 wires connected to it Connect the ground to the ground, low beam to the low, and high to the high on the headlight. You should have that last ground wire from the USDM low beam.. Don't cut it.. just tape it up just in case. Your SiR headlights are now wired.
As for the fender side markers, When installing them you'll realize the JDM corners only need one bulb. Cut the socket that you don't need anymore (the one with 2 wires).

Take the wires that are now cut and splice them into leads that run back to your fender marker. It's that easy.
Also, please make sure that when doing this you solder all your connections and cover them with shrink tubing. Black tape will work, but shrink tubing is best.
Now you should be all set. If you find something I might have left out of this DIY please PM me and I will modify it. This is the finished product.....

Of course the JDM fog lights is another DIY

**some of the wiring DIY was taken from njn63 and his "sidemakerDIY"
