gsr head questions
i just picked up a p72 gsr head and need to pick up all the cam retainer caps and the 2 plates that go along the top of the caps. does anyone know the part numbers for the parts i need or does anyone have the parts i need. i also need all the bolts that hold them down
|

If you need the part number call the dealer and question them and act like you wanna order them. ask for part numbers and prices etc then search around and see if you get a better price. Those arent as easy to get.

yea, those parts are gonna be tough to get. they come as part of the bare head. as far as i konw, you cant even get those parts from a dealer. it might be an idea to buy a blown b series vtec motor and steal the parts off the head.

best bet is u search or ask people on the forums for a blown head..I had a gsr head last month..car had swallowed the valve..it had everything on it..if I didnt throw it out..id give them to you...you should also check any shops or machine shops in your area..might get luckly finding some

Didn't Jadkar have a blown ITR head awhile back? That would have the same parts, would it not?

i know that the head he had on it most recently was brand new

dont those parts that he is looking for have to be machined before installed as per each individual set up??? Last i heard they were interchangable but needed to be mashined first.

As I just wrote back in your PM, the cam caps are line bored with the head. Each head-cap combination is not interchangeable. Many people do but shouldn't, this is why Honda doesn't sell the parts seperately. The tollerances can't be adjusted since there's no bearings so the caps can't be interchangable.
Think about drilling a 1.5 inch hole in plywood and then cutting that piece into two half moons. Now do the same thing once more on a new sheet of plywood. You will be left with 4 half moons but would you trust to interchange the sets and end up with a perfect circle? It's the same principal.

It's hard to say. The head with "different" caps definitely shouldn't be re machined. We are talking in thousandths of and inch so if you made the bore larger by re machining you can risk having to much cam clearance and screwing up you oil pressure.
I know for a fact many racers will swap caps back and forth because reliability is not a concern. Hell they are rebuilding engines sometime once a season. So if longevity isn't an issue than you don't really need to worry. I just wouldn't bank on getting 100K miles out of an engine the had mismatched cam caps.

yeah i dont plan on using it now, without the factory cam caps i dont want to risk destroying the head and any other parts in the head and waste all the money that gets put into it. i didnt pay anything for the head so im not out any money. so as long as your head come with the cam caps ill take it
