Header Wrap

Does anyone have expierience with header wrap on a stainless 4-2-1? I'm looking to find answers to it's benefits and also how to "correctly" wrap it. Because after searching HT for 20 minutes I never found a solid answer. Thanks a lot.

Here's mine done on my cheap eBay $41.00 SS header. I've since removed the wrap on the bottom section because I got a little oil on it, and I thought it was a bit dangerous. After thinking about it, if any oil were to leak it would sit on that section and smolder.

I just followed the instructions that came with the wrap. I got it wet, then I began at the head and wrapped down. I used SS zip ties that I bought off of ebay to secure it. (I bought them from ebay because they were MUCH cheaper than at my local speedshop)

Wear gloves.

I wrapped mine because I like the look, and I'm trying to keep my underhood temps down.

I can't comment on performance, because I rebuilt the motor too. I doubt it really does much alone.

there are some benifites to it such as keeping temps down under the hood and stuff like that but at the same time it accelerates the deterioration of the header its self. remember it insulates heat and that heat has nowhere to go so the header gets incredibly hot itself under the wrap. it begins to crack sooner than later.

Thank's a lot, at any point did you cut the roll? Or is it one continuous wrap. And does it need to be wet the whole time? I assume you get it wet so it contracts and forms a tighter fit. (just like other things...)

Exactly!!!! I put header wrap on my Jackson Racing header back in 1993 and it destroyed my header within 6 months!!! It must have retained water or something (although you would think it would burn off) and the header rotted out!!! I'll never do it again unless I know for certain the header is a quality SS.

it wasnt about retaining water cuz they dry quickly but the heat never dissipates (sp) so its still there and it over heats and it doesnt escape. so it rots quick.
