oil burning questions

ok i was planning on doing a k swap in my crx but money is tight and i already have the b18a1 so im gonna stick with it for a little while longer.

so no i want to rebuild a few things on and in the engine so i have a few questions.
i go through a quart of oil a week and only notice the engine burning oil when i really get on it and get into high rpm's, i'm not leaking any oil and i've replace the valve cover gasket and cam shaft seal so far. i've been told that my rings are bad, but i thought that if the rings are bad i would be burning oil all the time, and also have been told that the valve guids and or valve seals might be bad.
so how do i know what is causing the oil burning and how do i go about fixing it the engine came out of an automatic and has about 130k on it.

any help would be great

thanks mike

Get a leakdown test, that'll tell you what the weak link is. Engine rebuild kits aren't that expensive look into them.

like this

And blamo, you've got the makings of your very own type r motor, only other thing you'd need is a b16 head swap.

it wont happen all the time it could be the valve seals and rings are starting to go and will only let oil by under heavy load. thats why it only happens when you get on it. ide say rebuild time unless you are gonna just save the money and swap a motor in it. you can get a b18b for under a grand and do the work yourself if you are into the non vtec motors and go ls vtec later or just fix this motor and save for the b18c swap later.

When did you make this up?

Massive amounts of white smoke means head gasket gone

Blue smoke on the other hand means oil...

- Blue smoke when accelerating means piston rings are gone
- Blue smoke when you let go of the accelerator after giving it some gas means seals gone

Get a mate to drive behind you and ask him when he sees the smoke come out...

this is 99% the case with most engines that consume big amounts of oil...
