ok so why is my car blowing white smoke?
so i started my car tonight for the first time to try and get it to switch the fans on but i noticed it was smoking out the exaust... so i revved it to like 5k at idle and it would blow white smoke. it wasnt super thick, and it smelled more fuely then anything else.
now i would normally go strait to the head gasket, and a nearby redneck told me that thats what was wrong, but i think its something else. i did a compression test and got something like 220,220,215,220 or something around that. the difference with the one cyl that was less was less than 5% difference, so im 99% its not a damages gasket.
also, there was no oil in the coolant, no milky stuff in teh oil, none of the signs of a blown gasket. now, i was told by Wang that it could be the turbo, and i know its binding a little, after all, it will only make 4psi with a 6.5psi WG spring...
so, what could it be? is it just my turbo being a douche or is it possible i do have a blown gasket?? i am going to do another comp test tomorrow afternoon and i wanted to take the car for a drive to see how it heated up and if the fans came on, but ill have to wait now since my gf didnt let me go tonight

Better than a compression test would be a leakdown test. My guess is that the turbo is messing wit you. That or you're fpr got bumped. It could be a bunch of things. I hope it's not the headgasket though, that'd be a bitch.

mine does when the motor is first getting warmed up for the day. plus my car runs a little rich. Headgaskets will give a bluish tinge. I would go with a head gasket. Or it may just be the turbo but i dunno why tho? Anytime oil gets into the equation is always a bluish tint. I will think some more and post again.

could it just be dirty gas? have you had the same gas in your tank all this time you've been working on it?

thanks. i want to really take it for a ride and see how it acts. i want to do another comp test again. i mean, if the gasket is gone anywhere, it will show it! it must be the turbo or something.

i cant tell. i need to drive the car and even with the AC on for a few minutes it didnt heat up enough. i have this suspision that my new temp sensor isnt in teh best place... i put it on the hose that goes to the engine, but the one at the bottom of the radiator... i figured that i wanted the temp of the coolant comming out the radiator, not going in.. but now im doubting myself even though im pretty sure i am correct on what i did
ill take it for a drive tomorrow and see whats what. i have a lot of gas in the tank, about 3/4 full, so ill do some driving and use it up, i burn a lot anyway.

its normal for white smoke to appear when the car is first started....if it continues to choof smoke you prolly have a blown head gasket or a coolant leak to the turbo etc.......blue smoke is the result of burning oil in the chambers and black is due to a rich fuel mix

cool i love you guys!
oh, and ive decided that instead of buying anything else for my car after my exaust (full strait 3 inch no cat no resonators) im going to get a brand new turbo.
ive decided that ill spend the extra 200 and get a turbonetics t3 super 60 with the grogeous polished housing! its liek 800 bucks but itll be so nice to have a guranteed brand new turbo. i just dont know what the differnence between dry and wet bearings are... im guessing thats if it has oil through it or not... and i want that.
either way, i should be rolling in the dough, and as soon as i can afford it, ill be ordering the turbonetics. so far, garett hasnt impressed me.

did you ever look at your spark plugs? plugs can usually tell you a lot about what's going on inside the combustion chamber.

that will tell you if you're running rich or if it's the turbo... which in this case sure looks like the later like you've figured

i got my turbo and most other parts from street accord (kevin)
it was gonan go on his car but it came from some dude at his school and he had said it had no play, which it doesnt. theres something else going on. either way, when i do the exaust, ill be abel to tell if its not spooling casue of restrictions, or because of the turbo. either way, the tuner flagged it as binding with just hand spinning, and it barely spins on its own, like 1/4 rotation then stops, so most likely its just poorly rebuilt.
id rather have a brand new one. im going to slowly replace all the used parts i have, im just too worried about it now. i want to buy an ebay knockoff SSQV just so i can replace the casing around it (has no real functioon) so it can be all shiny like new.
i paid prolly like 300 for the turbo, but it was with a bunch of stuff
