Toulene and Octance Boosting

now they sell those octane boosters on the self but those don't really do all that much but long ago when I had my turbo'd saturn my friend showed me this.

http://www.elektro.com/~audi/toluene/

I never really got to try it with the satty but it seems logically to work and I may try it with the prelude if I raise the compression enough to need 93 octane (yeah for cali max octane 91 WOOHOO!)

its a good read none the less

You have to be careful when using toluene. It has a fairly high specific gravity, so the more you add, the leaner you *should* be tuning. Most of the "make your own race gas" sites forget to mention that part.

The difference is big enough that if you properly tuned for toluene/xylene homebrew race gas, then went to conventional race gas, you'd probably burn a piston or two

Sooooo, if I got 3 gallons of 91 octane and threw in 1 gallon of toluene, I'd get 4 gallons of almost 97 octane. Good to know.
