Nascar vs D1
http://www.urbanracer.com/articles/anmviewer.asp?a=2056
Article says it all. This should be extremely interesting and since the nascar guys are going to be embarrassed in this event its been deemed an exhibition. Lets see what happens.

yeah its gunna be good
just for entertainment value even
i mean considering some of the d1 drivers are real GT drivers isnt being taken into consideration here
its sport vs sport here........regardless its gunna be good
if only a more complex track.....but oh well...should be fun!

should be interesting depending on what the competition is. Probably some oval race though, lame.

its a cool idea for a domestic-vs-import war though
healthy competition is good. but u even can see the mutual respect they have for each other. its the way the car scene should be.

apparently its been getting mainstream coverage on cnn and news places like that trying to play up the nascar vs drift scenario. and yes its on an oval. nascar guys have never done this sort of thing in actual competition so an oval which is an easier track to handle will benefit them but hurt them cuz its so technically easy for the d1 guys. You figure this will only help bring drift into mainstream as far as the nascar fans go. But they said ff3 should bring drift into mainstream

well most NASCAR drivers have been born and raised on a dirt track. Elliot was one of them. Going sideways is nothing new. As far as just releasing them in a drift car and saying here you go, have at it? They wont be on par with the top drifters ( maybe witht hat dousche hubinette) but im sure you guys will be surprised. The NASCAR guys are still race drivers, they still have a natural talent for car control. I predict they should do rather well and it will be a good show. Now lets get some d1 drivers and cut them loose at talledega at 190 3-4 wide door to door bump draft scenario. Come on going fast and turning left is easy right?

no...power over is all well and good. He just doesn't impress me in drift. The rest of his background is impressive and all. Something about him i guess.

I've seen him drive twice. Both times he won and both times i thought he deserved to win. That's all i have to really say about that.

i dont like the whole notion about the roundy round guys and the dirt races.
its the same thing as those guys who say ALL THE SAME THING;
"oh these drivers used to race on dirt tracks and go sideways all the race. of course they are familiar with drifting"
AND
"man i used to slide my truck/suv/<insert beater piece of fucking shit> in the snow all the time since i was <insert stupid age here that is hella young>, i just didnt know it was called 'drifting'"
both comments are stupid as hell. and those ppl who say such things dont know shit about drifting.
they are two TOTALLY diff forms of motosport. and i think its a cool competition. its healthy and shows respect to both sides. but hell....i just hate how ppl make those comparisons. i dont blame ppl for making those comparisons. it just shows how much shit they dont understand.
and of course justin im not having a go at you, im talkin about alot of the 'talkers' out there making such naiive statements.

No offense taken kev, I am just saying our NASCAR drivers are familiar with car control. They try and make it seem like nascar drivers have no talent, that all they do is go in circles and that it is so easy anyone can do it. I just think people approach nascar with so much ignorance and it gets old.

The idea is though that they know how to control a car at it's limit. How many of the pro american drifters have histories in something else just like those nascar guys? Basically all of them. Hubinette for example was an ice racer. Drifting isn't a specialized skill or anything, it's just car control.

yeah it goes hand in hand. there's this same discussion on ZT as well.....apparently one of the nascar guys said during one of the D1 irwindale events when he was being interviewed, "Yeah we've watched drifting but it loses it's excitement quickly. You've seen it once, you've seen it all."
which is really stupid considering their form of motosport isnt repetitive?
circle racing takes alot more skill than most ppl think, but i really just simply hate the american way where they try to build 'healthy' competition through slandering other sports.
both sides should just shut up and drive.
we all know drifting is a novelty. hell orido used to race nascar. he still does JGTC. rhys millen and his father rod millen basically own Pikes peak.
