What makes a good drift car?
What things make cars 'good' drift cars? Short or Long wheelbase? Wide or narrow track? Front or rear weight bias (or closer to 50/50)? Can drift cars reasonably be 'too light' (i.e. a gutted trueno with some CF parts, i think that would be around or just under 2k lbs)
I dont really know a lot about drifting, ive only done it once or twice on the street, never on a track. Its pretty hard to do imho, but its such a blast

well i aint beginner...but i aint pro 180km/h ish either. but ur answer is easy....
usually each chassis has its own traits that u have to work with. have a look at the other thread in here regarding other drift cars.
sure u could spend a FUCKING SHIT GIGANTIC TITANIC LEONARDO DI CAPRIO AINT GOT SHIT ON ME COS I DIDNT DIE IN THAT LAME ASS EMO FUCKIN MOVIE-shit load to eliminate those traits....but it aint worth it u work with what u can, let alone drifting has the appeal of doing things 'different'....
however ppl tend to go for the easier chassis'......it can either be long or short...but usually shorter tends to be easy to break loose. have to be careful though, not considering suspension geometry, shorter cars can get a lil nervous but yeah you do everything u can to make it predictable thru tyre pressures, scrub radius, sprung/unsprung weight, camber/toe/castor settings. its all considered.
also for beginners u get something cheap with plenty of aftermarket support and plenty of replaceable parts. its no point damaging a car which is a headfuck to fix. ill post more later....mAB josh can also help......im gettin a coffee hehe

so for a noob, would a 240sx (i forget the chassis code, S13? the ones they made in the early 90's) or a Trueno be better?
the 240sx has a 97" wheelbase, versus the truenos 94, but the trueno weighs a lot less (2100 lbs for the trueno 600 more for the 240sx).
I think the trueno would be a better buy, but it might be more expensive if i ever found one. It would stand out a lot more, and im definatly not one that likes to stand out. But overall, i think the trueno is a better car. I guess if i want one, i better get it before Fast and the Furious 3 comes out. (when does it come out btw?)
oh yeah, and no body answered, what kind of weight distribution is ideal for drifting? i think it would be better to have a front bias, because it would put less weight on the rear of the car so the rear tires could break and slide easier, and you wouldnt have as much momentum in the rear of the car (or do you want momentum?) but thats just my noobish speculation.

well at least ur thinking...its a very good start...considering not many ppl think lol
trueno.....yeah well there's limited parts available and/or hard to find/get....so there's an inconvenience issue. let alone a stock trueno is balls shit......and alot of money has to be spent to build such an old car to be somewhat competant.....
weight isnt too much an issue with silvia's....esp s13's being the lightest of the 3 series'.....and they are fun to build with plenty of parts...chassis rigidity = doesnt take much to build competantly.....and ur blessed with the godliness of nissan so u can get crazy wide and fuck off offset rims (mind u the trueno's have crazy wheel wells also...we're just comparing other sports cars.....like ummm....hondas lol)
weight distribution isnt so much an issue for those chassis but moreso how u control the shift in weight. its essential in knowing ur chassis and knowing how to transfer weight well to control the car.
having momentum in the rear isnt a bad thing...aftereall 2 way diff's keep the lock even on deceleration. in gear/off throttle....so it keeps pushing...can induce understeer but if weight is shifted to the front and ur suspension geometry is set for good turn in. bang. u kick the tail out and away u go......

i guess i was thinking, if you have your suspension/chassis set up right, you dont need fat power. Is this wrong for drifting? I guess it would take power to spin your wheels at 50+ mph. but ive seen people drift basically stock S13's before.

get an 86 corolla and get ahold of the 20 valve engine. those things arent bad at all. a friend of mine when i was goin to tech school had an 86 with the 20 valve engine, that thing was fun as hell to slide. there was a whole upper parking lot at school that no one ever used. we'd go up there on our breaks and just drift the whole lot.
then one day, he whips out this picture from his wallet and gave it to me and said "look what just camne for me yesterday" i was like ...it was an r32! fuckin sick man. he waited for it to get imported for almost a year, got it all together and running and all. he NEVER took it to school. people have stolen cars from that parking lot while people are in class (pretty scummy if you ask me. we were all carheads goin to auto school and people have the nerve to jack other peoples cars)
whatever...thats the end of my little story.

tourettes much?
240 would work well as a drift car.....sr20det, basic power mods - full exhaust, induction, intercooler, push the T28 to its breaking point or get a 2530, run this setup at 260-270 rwhp, might need a few more bits powerwise,
put some coilovers on it, and go from there
