I officially suck at drag racing :)
So I went to Englishtown today for the first time. It's the first time I have ever been at a drag strip. Anyway......I officially suck!!! also, 88 Rex sucks too
88 Rex and I made a quick last minute decision to go down and I got 2 runs in before the rain and he got one. He can explain why, I won't go into it.
So I'll post my times and he can post his after........
RUN #1:
R/T: --> .644
60' --> 2.309
330 --> 5.905
1/8 --> 8.770
mph --> 85.73
1000 --> 11.226
1/4 --> 13.292
mph --> 107.65
During this run I started in 2nd gear, let out a nice chirp and then accelerated strong. I was against some 94ish civic hatch. Nice looking but don't know his setup. Light turns green and I suck so I instantly am staring at his tail lights. By the time I make it to 3rd I'm gaining and passing him. That's it for him.
Run #2
R/T: --> .643
60' --> 2.401
330 --> 5.993
1/8 --> 8.845
MPH --> 86.36
1000 --> 11.287
1/4 --> 13.343
MPH --> 109.40
This time I'm up against a Dodge SRT-4. I think he had some mild work and he had drag radials on the front. I knew I was in trouble because again...... I suck!! I start in second again, and the light turns green and once more I'm looking at tail lights. I also rev'd a little too high and I had 2nd gear spinning all the way to red-line........ on a drag strip, this thing has mad low end torque!! So unfortunately, I stayed about the same distance from him the entire 1/4 mile, I couldn't catch him. What's weird is my trap speed in much faster though. I wonder what would have happened if we kept going...like on a highway.
Anyway, please somebody who knows what they are doing take a look at this info and give me your .02 Tonight was definitely not the mid to low 12s like I wanted, but I don't think it was a fault of the car

haha, welcome to the club. Drag racing while sounding easy is far from it.
Just looking at your slips, you have some time you could pick up 60' for sure. Usually a tenth a 60' is worth 2 tenths on the top end. You could pick up 2 tenths probably 60' on the 2nd run which would dip you into the 12's.

13.2 is still a good time, lol! When I race I really dont care if i beat the car next to me or not, I just focus on my driving and getting the best time for my self. Your 60' show that your not getting traction, you should be somewhere in the 1.9-2.1 is my guess. And your high trap speeds just confirm that fact. Because when you do catch traction you accelerate like a MOFO. Get some slicks and try again. Still a good time, 12's are just some better tires away......

Those are the times I predicted lol high 12s to low 13s. They are good times for your first time out at the track plus they were on street tires so .... If you hit the track up a few more times and work on your launch you should be able to do better. Your set up should run a little quicker then it did that night.

We both had HUGE traction problems. 88 Rex spun the hell out of first even though he tried to feather. I on my 2nd run I spun like hell, and remember I start in 2nd gear! I spun it all the way to 60mph. I know everyone talks about how much better the drag strip is than the street, we just didn't feel it. I didn't think traction was a marked improvement over some of my local roads.

Pratice bro,
Good R/Ts though
As far as for your launch, unless you are on some super sticky drag radials or slicks then you just have to learn how to work the clutch to get you off the line right, its not hold a certain rpm and dump like a lot of people thing, you need to slip it a little to get good 60ft times. I've pulled 2.0s on Dunlop street tires in a 90si with a gutted cat and 2.5 catback. I even got a 2.1 in my dx but that under powerd thing takes a lot of slipping due to the lack of power, not wheel spining issue.
As for your Trap speed it is normal to have a higher E/T as a higher MPH when you spin off the line vs not spinging off the line. You will notice if you run slicks or drag radials your E/T will drop as will your 60fts but you MPH will also drop 1-2 MPH which doesn't make sense but it happens, its kinda wierd.

So for all you drag racing dudes......
Looking at my 2 time-slips, with lots more practice whtat do you think I can get this setup running???
...then what if I had lots more practice and ran drag radials??

trust me the track its alot better....its just street tyres + the ideal tyre pressure is shit! we run slicks on the chassis car with 6.5/7psi pressure on the rears.....we still break traction but any lower would be to a disadvantage....
i dont really take much notice on the fwd cars at events...but i remember one running 36psi at the beginning of the night.....after the owner walking around asking what others were running, he finally lowered it to 15-16psi and started running 12's and high 1sec 60ft times....possbily around 1.8 60ft? it was running a 1.6L turbo engine also
edit: i think he ended up running a 12.3 from memory....
anythings possible jadkar....just alot of fine tuning and runs will tell

Let me see if my engrish translation is working...
-You run 6.5/7 psi on slicks for your Nissan, and that's about as low as you can get them before they become a disadvantage.
-Street tires inflated to street pressures suck for drag racing.
- Some guy dropped his pressures to about 16/17 psi from 36 psi and went from suck ricerboy to stud racer
So if I drop the pressures to about 16 psi and get some more runs in then I should possibly be able to run a 13.5 on a really good run? OH and of course get new brakes lines, which I ordered this morning

In my limited drag racing expirence I think good numbers for us with practice would be
You = 13.5
Me = 12.5
