How long before the import scene realizes auto > manual? (for drag racing)
I see it all the time, people banging their heads against the wall trying to get a manual import down the track and running 2 tenths difference like it's nothing. Why have we not gone to a auto tranny yet? Looking at the domestic scene, you'd think it'd be common sense. Almost no one over there is using a manual tranny.
It seems like amazingly, the only ones to catch on are the supra guys where there is 2 8 second 6-speed cars and a lot more 7/8 second auto cars.
I know it's not as fun to drive, but watching videos of AMS car where when they shift 1->2 it breaks traction, it's almost common sense you'd think that an auto with smooth shifts and not losing boost would be better.

Don't lift just shift, then you don't loose boost, and if you are spinning that bad between 1-2 then you need to upgrade your tires lol

nick, i have been wondering the same thing
people dont realize that with higher line pressures in the tranny and shift kits and shit, nobody will be able to shift as fast as an automatic

Very true, but if there's no demand for it, then no company will be able to offer one at a competitive price.
but i do protest... chuck norris could...
(it had to be done)

Well as far as Hondas are concerned.....they don't make one that can handle the power. Honda makes shitty automatics, hell the auto in the NSX only comes with 250hp because they knew it couldn't handle it. I guess the supra trans is much stronger.

very true, the honda auto trannys are notorious for being piles of crap, especially the shift solenoids, i dont even know how many of those i have replaced
the only decent "automatic" honda tranny is the hx cvt tranny, the only thing those ever need is start off clutch replacement and they are good for another 140k

also very true, nobody who drives a honda wants to build their automatic, so there is no market for it

the problem with bracket racing is the car can run a 20 second pass. As long as that the time you dial in for.

They don't make manuals either for the cars i'm talking about. They're running g-force trannies that are worth more than my car. For that money a built auto tranny could be built too.
To clear it up, i'm more talking about 9 second and lower cars in the pro ranks of import drag racing. I can understand wanting a manual on a car that sees a track with corners or even daily driven but for a purpose built drag car... why?
Eric at AMS has a low 10 second DSM that has a built auto tranny/converter that ran him 5k. His car is smooth as silk down the track and very consistant.

O yeah, in the mustang world they say when you get into the 10's its time to go for an auto, and thats what you will see with about everyone that is running that fast
