Need tires....I know nothing about drag racing :)

Hey guys.....like the title says. I know nothing about drag racing and my car IS NOT set up for it, but I'm dying to give it a shot and see what RIO does. What do I need to buy in the tire department. I'm hoping I can use my 2 spare 15x7 wheels.

Also, does anyone know how Englishtown works?? Meaning is there like an "open track night" or something??

I met up with a few of those guys when I visited some family in jersey and we hit etown. The last time I went test and tunes were on wendsdays.

Drag racing is easy. Any night there is a "test & tune" you can just show up and run for like $20-25. Depending on the track you can get anywhere from 4-40 runs (how they allow for in their schedule). From what it looks like, e-town has test & tune/time trials wednesday's 6-10 ($26), friday from 5-? ($20), and sat from 12-? ($20). You'll probably get more runs on the wednesday as it's a dedicated test & tune day instead of having to compete with the bracket classes for track time (they will have priority).

If you're planning on going with street slicks, i've seen very good stuff about the BFGoodrich ones. Full slicks.. i'm not sure if they make any small enough to fit on a crx with 15" tires. I know they make dedicated 13" import slicks in smaller sizes, but most of the 15" slicks are made for domestics and are pretty big. M&H makes a 7.5/23.0x15 and a 8.5/23.0x15 it looks like that might fit, not really sure. Exospeed sells them for $145/$155.

Oh, and if they ask you want you plan to run, make sure to say something over 12.0 because 11.99 & quicker needs a 4 pt. roll bar. Not sure if you're quite going to be that fast, it should be close, but if you do run an 11 second pass you might get kicked out of the track haha.

Also might want to bring a helmet. At the local track here, if you run under 14.00 you need a helmet.
yeah I was going to mention that in the write up, most tracks are like that you need a helmet if your in the 13s and bars once your in the 11s.

Yeah, I was looking at these today...they are the Drag Radial2. Does anyone have experience with BF Goodrich's other Drag Radial, simply called "Drag Radial" I has a little more "import" looking trend pattern.

Either way it looks like I maybe picking 2 of these up. Also, if I did run my BFG KDW2s should I air them down when I make a 1/4 miles pass?? Right now I have about 30psi in them.

cool...... I think I may pick up those with another 2 wheels. The 15s in my garage have too much positive off-set.

Also, now I have to figure out how to launch this car. Since I have soooo much wheels spin in 1st I think I don't even need to worry about the revving it when I launch. I'll just start normal and floor it, the car won't bog. If I rev it up to let's say 3 or 4 grand she'll just spin the crap out of the tires. You guys have all seen the video.

What do you think??

we only use slicks and run around 6psi in the rears...i would suggest running 15-16psi in ur tyres....but it comes down to trial and error...start off with ur normal daily pressure level and decrease it over the course of a meeting....the lower it is, generally 60ft times improve...

lower your tyre pressure to help in controlling the wheel spin and achieve better 60ft times...

yeah learning to launch your set up takes time no one really goes to the strip and gets their best times the first time there your going to need a couple of launches to get familiar with your set up. After your familiar with it then you should start worrying about slicks dampening settings and all that good shit.

Heres some advice i got from my cousin..your first time launching dont rev up to high, because you don't know the track and how well your car is goin to act. The track is a whole different ball game then the street..there is a layer of rubber on the surface from all the other cars.
Launch at about 2500-3500rpm the first try, because fwd cars spin like like no tomrow, and when you clutch DONT pop your clutch ride it off(slip the clutch).
There has been times were hondas break there axles when they pop there clutch, and exspeacilly dont do pop your clutch with slicks on. My cuzins friend blew his axles right at the the line..the tires gripped to much the axels couldnt take it.
