Please tell me my computer isnt fried!
I went to use my pc and log on and something smelt like it was burning. As I went to check it out the pc shut off and whenever I turn it on it shuts off 2 seconds later. Please tell me it was something simple like a power supply and not the mb or cpu!

try holding down the power button for like 30 secs. it probably won't do anything but it did work for me when my comp turned on for a split second then turn off. then again, i didn't have a burning smell. when i held down the button for 30 or so secs, i can tell my computer was struggling to turn on. i kept doing that and it worked.

let it cool off for a bit and then try it. My laptop shuts itself off sometimes and i just hold it up so it gets more air to the fan while turning it back on.
The burning smell doesn't sound good though.

I already tore it apart and the sata chip looks fried and smells fried I just hope that my sata drives didn't fry with it! the cpu fan smells a bit but the processor itself doesn't look or smell bad so it might be ok. but I'm pretty certain the mb is toast. It's funny I held on to my old pc for 2 years and sold it last week, I just knew this would happen. Oh well off to fry's I go.

Yeah its toast, now I just need to figure out how to recover my data from my raid array. I wish I could figure out a way to do it myself, but I'll probably have to have someone do it and be without my computer for a week. Anybody know how to recovery data from a striped raid array?

If all the disks are ok, you should be able to just fire them up again in another raid capable system.

Yeah I have a feeling that one of the drives is a little damaged. I'm going to have to take me pc in and have someone pull the data off both drives and put it together so I can get some of it back. The shitty part of that is that I'll be without a pc for a week or so.
To top it off I'm going to be on my 3rd new motherboard because the first two had something wrong with them. I was using the asus p4p800e deluxe but I'm going to have to use the p4p800se, anyone know the difference between them besides one less raid controller?
