Final Fantasy XII anyone?
who's pickin it up?
I can't wait for this freakin game to come out... I've always been a huge FF fan, and just went though Dirge of Cerberus and FFX... so I'm waiting for the XII installment to come in...
10-31 baby! gotta get the special edition.

Ive played all the FF games except drige of cerberus. I sold my ps2 a while ago. but I might pick up a used one to play ffxii. I played the demo for it when dragonquest 8 came out and it was pretty cool.

hands down this game owns all. the story is awesome, the movies are spectactular and the battle system (although different) is effing awesome. i would be playing it right now if the girlfriend wasn't feeling well and didn't go to bed early. Because I'm a gentleman..i turned off the ps2 and let her sleep.....i feel like a fat kid who hasn't had his donuts though.....

haha, yeah I stayed up pretty late playing it the other night... Now I'm about eight hours in...
it's definitely one of the better FF games, that's for sure.
every cutscene has me drooling, and the main storyline is spectacular! Reminds me a shitload of Final Fantasy Tactics... warring empires and such...
very cool... I'm going to spend the next six months of my life wasting on this game... haha

well it's from the same guys that did Tactics... Hiroshi Minagawa is the main director for FF12, while he also did the direction for FFT. Taka Murata... supervised programming aspects on both FF12 and FFT. Hitoshi Sakamoto... responsible for both amazing musical scores in FF12 and FFT. Even the character design is done by the same guy, Akihiko Yoshida. Almost all of the other aspects are handled by the same team of guys....
whereas all the other Final Fantasy games (1-10, and most of 11) are all done by Hironobu Sakaguchi producing/directing, Nobuo Uematsu on music, and a whole different cast of credits.
I think the only team member that is the same is Yoshitaka Amano, and all he does is image illustration. He's done it for every FF game ever and doesn't involve him doing much except some character/locale illustrations and the main logo.
So basically, they've got a whole new team that worked on this one... so there are gonna be a lot of similarities between it and FFT and FFTAdvance. Which I think is good, because FFT was an amazing game, FFTA was pretty damn good too... and the previous team working on FF titles just seemed to kinda start losing some of the magic, you know?
anyway, I'm twelve hours into it now... it's fucking awesome. Cloud who?? haha I picked up the Collector's Edition of the game... in a metal case with an extra DVD with bonus features like developer interviews, art galleries, trailers, and featurettes... I'm gonna stick that in the dvd player now and see if it was worth my extra ten dollars.

I'm not gonna go that far yet... still gotta finish. It's like VIII, I thought that game was the shit... then I get to disc three and find out that they're all from the same orphanage, and everything went downhill from there.
So I'll stick with VII and Tactics as the two best FF games, in my opinion... XII comes in a close third already, and I haven't finished yet. So we'll see......
Update on progress: I'm about 21 hours in... just made level 20 with all characters, have at least one quickening for every character, and I got the first Esper... now, I'm spending time doing a few hunts and leveling in the Giza Plains during the rains.

I just got to the part where the 8th airship fleet gets *SPOILER!!!!!!* blown to smithereens. my characters are all level 17 give or take and I have two characters that have quickenings and one esper.
For me I just really like the more mature feel of it all.
but something that is funny to me and i know not intentional is that sometimes i feel like I was playing star wars lol
balthier = han solo
frann = chewbaca
Vaan = luke
basch = obi-wan
Ashe = Leia
it's stupid but I felt this resemblence when balthier was talking about his airship

now that you mention it, yeah I could see that comparison as well... haha, that's funny. Only Basch isn't anywhere near as insightful or wise as Obi-Wan.... And Penelo, well she just sucks. I made her my time mage, support magick character... so I'd only have to have her in the party maybe once or twice during a boss fight.
I just made it to Phon Coast... where you'll find out something very, very interesting about Balthier... mwahaha
now I'm all level 30, two espers, two quickenings for everyone, three for Ashe.
what route did you take each character? or have you decided yet? You're about at the point where I kinda veered each character into separate, traditional FF jobs... my party is set up as such:
Vaan: Tank, heavy armor, sword specialty
Basch: Tank, heavy armor, Greatsword specialty (unsure if I wanna use the GS, cause I'll lose the shield... and for the tank, the evade bonuses from the shield are really, really worth it... so I dunno. So I'm using a hammer right now)
Fran: Black Mage, light armor, sticking with the bow
Ashe: White Mage, mystic armor, Rod specialty
Penelo: Support mage (all other magicks), light armor, gun specialty (might move her to hand bombs... just to see if they're worth a shit)
Balthier: Support character, he just deals damage and throws random cure spells

This game is on my Christmas list along w/ Need For Speed:Carbon Collector's Edition, Yakuza, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent.
For now, i'm playing IV on the SNES, and VIII on the PSX.

I've pretty much tried to keep the characters well rounded. All of them have the same white magic spells. but if there is a type each character is here it is.
Vaan lvl 23- the muscle (using a 2handed katana with 50+ strength)
Basch lvl 20- more muscle (one handed sword w/ shield)
Balthier lvl 18- support / long range (using bowgun)
Fran lvl 19- black/green/dark/white mage (still using bow...but she is mainly my mage)
Ashe lvl 19- 3rd muscle + white mage (using sword and shield)
penelo lvl 19- mainly a healer and decoy character
hey man did you ever wander into the...Zall...something caverns?... there are a bunch of horses that can teleport and basically kick the living shit out of you?.....I accidently ran in there looking for something and i nearly got slaughtered many times..I had to flee the entire time and stop when I was not being pursued to Raise all of the KOed characters
I was freaking out cause I would've lost at least 2 or 3 levels for my characters if i had died
