data migration

ok guys I just got a new laptop because my desktop was acting a fool so now I need a quick easy and cheap method of migrating about 15-20gigs of files programs and settings to my new computer

the old one has a cd writer but not a dvd writer on it and I already tried an APC file transfer cable which turned out to be a big waste of money b/c for some reason the laptop wouldn't load the driver.

If they both have network ports you could get a crossover cable and transfer the data via tcp-ip. That's probably the simplest way (besides straight firewire).

There's a few different ways though. Another is to take the hard drive out of your old laptop and buy a USB/Firewire laptop drive enclosure and just hook up the hard drive to you new laptop.

an enclosure will run you only 30 bucks, plus, if you're not going to keep the desktop then you've got an instant external hdd.
