new hard drive for notebook?

My hard drive in my Toshiba is dying so i'm looking for a new one. Any opinions on this?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822146047

I might just go with the 60gb version instead. I'm iffy on using another Hitachi drive as this one only lasted a little over 2 years but i'm not sure if there are better/worse brands. Help?

I'd shy away from hitatchi and toshiba drives.
Seagate make good 2.5" formfactor drives, as do maxtor. Some of the FSC drives are good as well.
And...get the bigger drive, you'll be thankfull for it later.

If that hitatchi drive is only 2 years old, it might still be RMAable

Seagate FTW. Best for performance, however not the quietest. I plan on upping to a Seagate 7200rpm once I get my MacBook

size isn't really an issue with me, i just want 7200 rpm. When i get too much crap on my HD i just burn some CD-R's. I've had a 40gb hard drive (4200 rpm haha) for 2 years. I don't care about noise really either, i just bought some new speakers

What does "RMAable" mean? I know for sure this computer is just over 2 years old because i bought it around the same time as my brother starting school.

Edit: How about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822146229 I'm debating stepping up to the 100gb for $20 more but i kinda doubt it. Money is a little more important at this point and i don't think i'll really need that much space.

If you had a desktop I would say try and find a 9600rpm drive. However due to size 7200rpm is the fastest we can do for notebooks. The MacBooks come with a 5400rpm. I plan to buy a Firewire external case for that, then upping to another 60gb-80gb 7200rpm drive. That way I have an external HDD for backup

RMA means return merchandise authorization
basically it means when something breaks, you send it back to the manufacturer.

A lot of parts (depending on who built the system, and how they bought the parts) in computer systems are covered by the manufacturer, even if the company who "made" the system's warranty has expired.

Check hitatchi's website, they should have a way to check if that serial number can be RMA'd or not.

Yeah, a lot of Hitachi stuff i've seen has a 3 year warrenty so it's very possible. I've already backed up everything important on it anyways so if they did replace it i'd just sell it. I'm too hyped up on this idea of a new drive to go back to that thing now.
