Mac vs PC
Ok what the hell....Its TJ's first Mac vs Pc thread.
I am a fan of both Platforms...but I use a mac at home, PC at work and school. And I love my ipod....but my 3g one broke after 3.5 years so I bought a used 4g one and I feel whole again.

yeah the only reason I am a mac fan is cause my dad always used one when he was doing desktop publishing, so it was my young computer experience. He used to have a old shool mac SE back in the late 80's.

I always see people saying things like "macs are better for multimedia, macs are better for publishing, macs are better for movie making/editing...etc"
But no one can ever seem to prove it, either by benchmarking, creating some outstanding media on a mac that can't be replicated on a pc, or showing something only a mac can do in the first place.

I have to edit my earlier sentiments.
Upon further reflection, I have come to the conclusion that there are somethings a mac can do, that a PC can't do.
Such as: When moving a file, actually moving THE file, not a copy of it..but not telling you that, so you lost your copy on the machine by moving it to a disk.
Crashing when you want to try and open 2+ applications at a time.
Be available in colors the coincide with your hippy socks and new beetle.

You can use a 2-button mouse with a mac and right click pretty much does the same thing. I have a logitech that I have used with a pc and a mac.

I prefer Macs for obvious reasons, and just for the fact that I am graphic arts major so I really don't give a crap about PC gaming...so end of that story.
I could go on and say why they are better for Multimedia, and basically it's because of a few reasons:
1. QuickTime > Windows Media
2. Adobe Creative Suite > 3rd party apps
3. QuarkXpress > MSFT Publisher
4. BSD Unix Based system > DOS running system
5. OS X Dock > Taskbar
6. Front Row > Windows Media Center
1. Face it, QuickTime has worked flawlessly on every Mac since the days of QT 1.0 and even you guys should know that Microsoft stole code from QuickTime to make their AVI player (true fact). So right now QuickTime powers the iTunes which holds 83% of the music media market share.
2. Adobe has been making their suite of apps for the Mac platform since the early 80s when Macs were and still are the premier choice in studios, print shops, and publisher companies world wide.
3. Face it...QuarkXpress is the bench mark of publishing, and because they were very very stubborn on releasing software for Windows MSFT decided that they would release their own....which no real company uses!
4. I've been running Mac OS X on my old G4 (which is now sold) since 2001. Never have I had to re-install or have to recover any data lost on it. Unix system is simply the most reliable. However I know countless and countless friends who constantly reinstall XP on their PCs at least twice a year. XP still has to be defragged, where OS X defrags by itself.
5. the OS X dock is a true wonder where it is far more interactive than the Taskbar. I can put whatever apps I want, whatever documents, and even sends the windows I minimize to the dock to be stored for interim time. Not only can you quit applications, you can launch, interact with other apps, and even have them launch on every boot right from there.
6. Apple made it every easy to run a computer based entertainment system, and having a remote with only 6 buttons max was going to minimize confusion as to what it was intended to be used for, and increase productivity, as well as being very similar to the iPod interface, but with the movie trailers, DVDs, and photos that it gets right from your iPhoto, iTunes, QuickTime Trailers, and DVD player app, it just plain works.
Though my friend's PC is supposedly much faster than mine, I find it odd that iTunes runs very sluggish, has very odd sound issues, and sometimes computer won't boot from the start. Sure beats the fact of building a PC if you are screwed who do you call?

Hey, guess what? The current version of bsd that osx is based on, aaaaaaaaaaaaand most commonly used versions of *ix were developed on "pc's" not macs
Ya wanna know how awesome mac's are? Awesome enough that they now use the same processors that "pc's" use

i'm biased to PC. it's all i used and know. if macs were cheaper, i would consider it. now only if they sell their OS to the pc market. that would be awesome

^^ my thoughts exactly.... for overall variety and customization (if you're into that) i'll take a PC anyday. OSX would be pretty though...

The bottom line is.
MAC owns in graphic desing, multimedia production and such. Gaming is way better on MAC graphically. But the mac platform is limited on games. MAC OS
is written WAY better and pretty much never has errors like the common errors on PC. Also mac will have a 90% chance of getting computer threats. .exe files aren't even supported on MAC.
another HUGE advantage of apple is the free Ilife package that comes with an apple computer. It has some video editing, and music making programs that are VERY well designed and user friendly. Better than some PC ones you have to pay for.
PC is for functionallity, working basically. Platform is way bigger for gaming. PC is great for the everyday computer user. Great word processing and programs to aid in accomplishing work. Good for surfing enet. Price is also alot lower. Microsoft OS has many issues and errors but, it works.
More hardware upgrades are also available.
I don't prefer PC or MAC. I like to run both. They both have specific strenghts.
But for an everyday computer I say PC. For a HXC computer user I say apple ALL THE WAY.

macs are the better system.
ever played halo on a 30" cinema display on a mac? ever tried running a 3000x2500 resolution on a pc with no lag?
how about the g5 dual core dual processor... thats about the equivelant of 4 x 4ghz amd64 chips in one pc.
apple do it better, apple do it cleaner, apple do it faster.
my mac has crashed 4 times since i got it a year ago. wanna know why? it was because i had it connected to my pc to transfer files and when the pc crashed, so did the mac
