Do what I did. Format the HDD, install a stripped down version of linux, with all the samba stuff. Pull everything uneccessary for the server to run off it (cdr om, hdd, video card etc), and put it in a small small box. Set it up as a samba server, put a fibre channel card in it, get three or four 10 drive fibre channel Jbods populated with 180gig drives, hide it all under the stairs in the basement and enjoy having lots and lots of storage, with a simple to use, not likely to crash management system.

I may have to talk to you about this one. cant have too much memory.
If only i could get a LARGE harddrive for my laptop. preferably internal. so far im looking at the lacie 500gb external hd. but would rather have something internal so if anybody knows about an internal hd for a dell lattitude d600 let me know. and now ontopic. i would deffinitely turn it into storage like kanscrx said or donate it to a school for kids.

Unfortunately you can't get large hard drives for laptops. Thats why I decided to set up a file server (well, that and storage for my media pc), so i didn't have to clutter up my laptop.
Somewhere along the way, with a few freebies from work, I ended up with 5400 gigs of storage
You could always just strip it, linux it, and add like 1 500 gig drive, and use it as a file server for streaming mp3's to your stereo or something.
Or, I like the idea of giving to a needy charity too.
