Good laptop for your money

i'm looking to spend $1000 on a dell laptop is there a good would that you guys would prefer. i don't know anything about specs on computer such as 1mb? if you could prefer one and tell me the specs on it an translate it so i understand it that would be great

my mom just bought a centrino laptop from dell. 15.4" widescreen, dvd/cdrw drive, 512mb RAM. just let them know what you will do with it and they'll customize it for you. saves you money on crap you wont need.

well i just want a basic on with wireless internet, but has a pretty good size hard drive. nothing to fancy
