need some help from the CRX gurus.... :)

Hey guys. Need some help; Ive been really busy and mainly am on azht.net as a main forum but I always come here because you guys really know your CRX's. The ony problem is lately its really died down. Once charge my batter of my new camera I will post pics to show you my new project, a y49 CRX. I have a few things I need help and advice on. For starters the main thing at hand is my Head. I think my block may be cracked because when I put water into my overflow tank & Radiator, it doesnt leak anywhere. My only guess is the water/coolant is going into the block which means the engine will die pretty damn soon. I need to know if you guys think it could be something else. Other than that I have a question on restoring the trim of my car. ( i will post pics ) I already used a restorative compound which revived the black trim on my doors, bumpers etc and it really replenished my trim and brought out the black but what I have a question on is where or what can you do about window trim? I will need pics to show you but the black plastic cover around my window as well as the divider on the top of the hatch's plastic is kinda crumbing off...Before I paint my CRX I wanna know if there is a place to find or buy some Trim and complete it versus painting over the exposed metal and painting that black. Suggestions are welcome and as soon as I get my camera charged tomorrow I will post pics. I appreciate anyone for ready this!
-James

I'd like to provide feedback but I really don't understand what you're saying. You said water must be going into the block so it's gonna die soon??? Can you try and explain your issue a different way. maybe I can figure out what you're saying and give you some advise.

For now with the limited understanding of your problem I would say do a leak down test to check for leaks in the sleeves, head gasket, etc. Also, have you tried to pressurize your cooling system to check for leaks?

As far as your trim restoration. I was never able to do anything that left me with results I liked. The plastic trim on Hondas dries out and cracks, eventually it just looks like crap. I think it my case all the armoral made it worse, it sped up the aging. I had to just replace all my trim and now I baby it. God only knows after a while the trim won't be available anymore

I apologize, at the time of me doing my first post on the thread I was at my girlfriends and I hadn't been on here in a while so I kinda tried doing everything at once. I work in an hour but I will try and get some pics up today but in a nutshell.
  • I fill my overflow tank and radiator with water. The following day/days both are empty yet I dont see any puddles under my car
  • I need to know where to go about ordering trim for my car
  • I've replaced the headgasket twice in the last three months, so would I just presurize test it to try and find a leak?

*EDIT* I will post pics later tonight after work. Stay Tuned. Thanks for atleast attempting to help jadkar.

Well if it is truly empty in about a months time it's going somewhere so.....

Could be a slow enough leak out of an engine component and onto the hot exhaust or block and burning off. Although, You would smell it and eventually you would probably see a small drip somewhere.

Could be leaking through a crack in the block and into the cylinders and being burned. I would think performance would be suffering and you would see white smoke from the exhaust.

Could be leaking into the oil pan, have you checked your oil? Is it milky?

Could be the head or block is warped and no matter how many times you change the head gasket it will leak. Do a leak down test.

The other pressure test I was referring to is hooking up a tester to the radiator cap and pressurizing the cooling system. These tools have gauge on them. Leave it hooked up over night and see if the pressure still reads the same the next day. Also, look around the car while it's pressurized and see if you see a leak or hear a hissing sound anywhere.

That much coolant loss though should result in either a puddle somewhere, a smell, a performance drop, smoke, or a combination of the two.

Oh another thing to do is have a buddy of yours follow you on the highway and see if you are leaving a trail of anti-freeze mist on his windshield. He will know it's anti-freeze because it will smear with the wipers.

I use majestic Honda for all my OEM parts. If I can't find it there and it's JDM I try Password.

I hit up Majestic Actually online earlier today snooping around and found alot of the stuff to order, thanks Jad! Heres some of the pics I was talking about:

alot of it I can order but what I'm wondering about is my door trim...like the window part...Hard to explain. My molding is really good but its the door outline I guess...The picture shows. I dont wanna paint over that unless I have to because it looks as if there was a rubber/texture previously there that isnt anymore. I'll keep you updated on my Radiator. Thanks for the support.

You'll have to paint the door window frame. It is painted from the factory. They use a color that's actually called "Honda Black". It's a semi-flat black finish that has a rubberized look (but it's not rubber at all). As far as the black trim molding on the top of the hatchback. You're not gonna find that. I bought the last one in 2005. At that time there were none left. I know this because by brand new one was slightly bent and I tried to return it and they said it's the last that Honda had and I had to take it or leave it. If I were you I would take that off and have a shop strip it down to chrome and repaint it. Now that peice did have a strange plastic coating on it but I doubt you'll notice the difference if your shop does a good job.

awesome. Thanks for all the feedback man, you're the best.

I'm really confused because you say that part is discontinued and yet I see it on the menu list to order on majestic right here.....
Part #10 I believe. I'll take more pictures of my door later to show where I thought that my door frame was rubberized because you can physically see a rubber substance that is on a the frame thats faded off.

Thanks again for all the insight.

You can try to order it but it might get canceled. I just tried to order an HF badge and it went through, but I got an email a few days later saying there were none left.

bump and updates. everything is going smooth. dont know why but its not overheating/leaking anywhere. I think the storms have really helped with that. WE had one two days ago that was simply amazing. Search for it on the web, we had non-stop lightning for about 6 hours straight, 100mph winds etc. was an apocalyptic storm.

sorry for more questions i just dont wanna make another thread.

eBay Motors: NEW JDM HONDA EF6.7.8 CRX OEM Window Visor EF 88-91 (item 320286465964 end time Sep-12-08 12:07:52 PDT)

tempted... been wanting visors for a while (not to be Jayyyyyy Deee EMmm) but it would really compliment my Sunroof visor. Plus even though I have cold AC, I love to drive with my windows cracked, or like yesterday, have them cracked when its raining......I just dont appreciate the rain that drips in. Anyone know or have had these before and how they compare to the passwordjdm ones for like $100 more?

discuss...

I've never had a pair on any of my cars. I don't have a sunroof visor either. It's just personal taste. These used to be real popular with smokers for obvious reasons so when ever I see them on a car I just figure the dude smokes.

Never really liked the way they looked but they sure are functional (had a set of vent visors on my Dakota in high school). Just make sure you get the set for non-power folding mirrors.
