Havent been on in a while.......but now I have reason to...... :)

Hey guys.........every now and then I would check in on the forums here......used to love it about a year back when I would see the activity, gawk at all the other enthusiasts and gain knowledge but I lacked one thing that I kinda needed to fit in here; a CRX. well, guess what I just picked up.......

Dont have much to say about her or much pics on her yet but I can give you guys all a brief rundown. I picked her up for a decent price, she had never been run hard and shes bone stock down to even still having the freaking AM Cassette Player! We were driving her home (I will refresh your guy's memory and remind you I am only 18 and a student so getting another car I kinda had to consult with my father, dgaf laugh all you want) and we noticed a few things, it started smelling like brakes kinda bad. We lugged it home and we could tell the brakes on the front were pretty bad and bad as in when we were coasting from 70mph on the offramp it wasnt like a casual 70.....65.......60......55 it was like 70.....60.....50 it was unbelievable! My father was joking at how sluggish this thing was till we could tell the brakes in the front must have been bad...Well we got it home no problems really but the front brakes did have smoke coming out of it and we are taking it to the garage tomorrow to have it get looked at. I am thinking the brakes were probably rusted or something because the guy did have it sit for about a year in his garage. Now the thing is kinda dusty and I cant wait to be able to drive it and wash it and all that (I dont know how to drive a stickshift yet nor does it have current tags/smogged etc) but for the mean time I'm pretty happy for her condition, she needs a few here-there things but other than that I will be a much more common member and hopefully get some good input/feedback/knowledge from you guys.

Oh.......and you know shes an Si.

In for more pictures. Car looks super dirty but very clean. Does that make sense?
Somebody speak up about the Y-49 "situation" . I don't have the heart to break it to him.

looks good, first thing you need to do is wash it and then break out a can of either semi-gloss or flat black paint and paint those wipers arms

+++Is that one wiper supposed to normally sit that high or no?+++
Ya cant wait. I already have little side projects lined up but first things first: I cant get this thing registered/smogged yet! The bastard rolled down the Odom! Me and my pops dont know how to safely roll it up. Heres the situation:
We bought the car seeing it on ad for 128k and my dad ran Carfax and it came out last year at 145k after emissions.....odom reads 128k..... hrm sadly the guy was honestly a pretty mellow guy and seemed pretty truthful (waits for the "dont they all seem that way?") but he must have rolled the thing back to sell it. I dont know a safe way to roll it up and me and my Dad are scared to ask at a Dealer because it might come off as conspicuous. Please help all! Thanks for the feedback keep it coming! I will get some "Clean but oh so dirty pics of the interior for you to! :P Cant wait to clean it out. Its dusteh!

I think there's rumor of a Y-49 curse because several yellow crx owners wrecked their cars. Whatever...

Anyway, I had the same problem with the brakes on the crx I bought several months ago but not as bad as you. I'll pretty much guarantee theres rust between the caliper bore and piston, causing your brakes to seize.

I propose the reasoning behind the curse is that the yellow CRX is just so mesmerizing that others on the road forget how to drive .

Great. So I'm screwed with this thing? God damnit. I'm a very superstitous person, too.
Yeah because he went to go take it to the garage and we had no problem. IT was weird.

I'm sure there are lots of ways to solve your problem. The only way i know of is to manually spin the cluster with a drill or a dremel tool by sticking something into the slot where the cable from the tranny goes. I'm sure it'd take days to add that kind of mileage though.

You could basically get any cluster that has more than 145k on it. They don't generally as questions as to where extra miles came from (just say it was towed improperly if they do). Or you could stuff an s2k cluster in there, then you'd have digital guages and could put in whatever he hell you wanted for mileage.

Welcome to T-J, by the way!

I've always wanted a Y-49 car. Doesn't look bad at all. If you don't want that sunroof visor, it'll probably bring a decent buck on ebay (assuming it's genuine Honda)

My guess would be a locked caliper on the brakes but it's hard to say without tearing it apart.

thanks. I will keep that in mind

Sorry I havent updated you guys in a while; been sick as a dog lately and have been out of it. Today we fixed the seizing brakes. It turns out it was the master cylinder. Even though the previous owner just put in a new one; it was the wrong size. We are thinking instead of trying to go through the hassle of fixing the odom/buying a new cluster we are just gonna try and get it smogged and tell them what the actual mileage should be. Most people tell us that they dont check when they are running emissions and that they ask you as you are leaving so even though it reads 128k on the odom and our carfax says it at 145k last year when he took it through emissions that we can just tell the inspector and they will put down like 150k or whatever so it doesnt come up as a red flag on carfax......today if I can fall back asleep and get some more rest I will hopefully be doing more stuff and get to drive it for once and I can continue on the project. Btw anyone know how to fix a trunk latch? We can get the trunk to open and we wanna think its the latch but it wont budge and we need a good approach to fixing it. Thanks again all!

You have to get smogged in AZ? WTF?

As far as the trunk latch, I'm not sure what the problem is. You say you can get it open. What's to fix?

negative, we can not get it to open. we attempted the dremel+cable technique today and wow........lets just say fuck that......we had it on high speed and just like you guys said it would take us days.....we gave up and are now looking into other clusters from scrap yards to just install.

yup. sure was. well we picked up a cluster for like 50 bucks at a honda yard.....it said 88-89 on it and yet we noticed it had a shift light which I found pretty cool. but what my dad ended up doing was toying around with that one to get to the odometer and if he fucked up he could fall back with the one we already had. I liked the upgrade myself (alot of you are probably thinking: omg its only a shift light) well to me that kinda thing is cool, maybe its just me. Well we looked on the back and it had a different electrical connection that my cluster didnt even have for that light so we determined even if we used it that the light still would not have worked but ya we were able to actually get my cluster rolled up so now everything is all good heres a pic of the new cluster.
I know its a bad pic because of the flash but that was the only real method to flush out the smudges......
Another reason we didnt just go with it is because it was dirty as hell. we tried everything to un-smudge it but to no avail. I know I have been procastinating but tomorrow I will post pics of interior Before/after clean-age!
******Thanks for everyone with the input, where the hell have all the regs gone? I still recognize alot of you, but where has jadkar/etc gone? I notice my thread is the only semi-recent posted one...... ******
