Bypassing ignition switch
Basically i have had to build solder up on the contacts on my ignition switch about every 3-6 months so that i could get enough contact in my ign switch for the accessories to work, well its getting to be that time again. Since my car is on its last leg (rust has over taken it big time) and i plan to retire it soon I was just thinking about buying three switches and wiring them up, one for acc, on, and a one way spring switch for start.
has anyone out there do this or hot wired one before? I'm worried it might not work because some motorcycles have resistance in the ign switch and without that resistance there they won't start. I would hate to do all this wiring and find out that crx's have the same type of deal.
so if anyone has hot wired or bypassed the ign switch on one let me know how it worked out

Hmm thats a tough one i know my bro had a push button start installed on his integra a couple of years and they installed it BUT he still needed the key to switch the car into acc then to start but the car didnt start on the last turn of they key if i remember correctly. something like you are talking is possible in these cars i think its all about closing certain circuits and before the ignition can be turned.

yeah, i got out my factory manual and looked, acc there is two wires that run off that key position
on there is another 3
then one for start
there is two power wires that run to the switch, so i would have to split off one of those for the start switch. basically just hook them up they way they were but to switches.
plus i would still have to put my key in to unlock the steering wheel, but i might just leave a spare in the ign and leave it on so when i unlock my door i just put my keys back in my pocket and get in
pretty simple, i drew up a quick diagram that shows all that there is running off the ignition swtich, the only two things that run in the acc position are the heater controls and the radio, then on the on you got one lead to the dizzy, then another to the voltage regulator that then from there everything else gets its power

Dude you can get rid of the steering wheel lock if you want to. and just close off the cylinder for the key entry. You arent worried about somebody hopping in flipping switches and leaving with your car???

That's what I did with my motorcycle. It has a number pad and an 8-digit code to start it up now.

Little late to help now, but I was actually thinking about soldering up a small board to feed voltage to a thumb scanner, and recognize the response of my thumb to power the main relay. Just an idea, but I'm still brainstorming
Also thinking about a boost mobile phone with chirp and gps wired to the main relay and installed HELLA far up in the dash. So if my car comes up missing, I alert it to kill power, and chase my GPS signal down. Then just chirp it to engage the relay again
I like a challenge

I went through that thought process for awhile on my motorcycle along with the idea of doing voice-recognition for ignition. The problem is, what happens if they fail? Do you have a failsafe to start the car? If you do that, you're essentially making it EASIER to steal the car, as there's an option of which system to hotwire. In the end, I decided that simplicity is the name of the game, and the numbered waterproof keypad got the final vote. It pretty much just kicks ass, and I don't have to worry about losing my keys (which, incidentally, didn't come with the bike and were more expensive than a waterproof keypad and microprocessor... leading to my final setup).

HAHA classic. I kind of want to see how that works/looks on your bike if you've got a pic.
