Help diagnose my sunroof issue

I havn't even started looking at diagrams yet but I think this is going to be one of 35 winter projects that won't ever get done. It's been broke for a frigging year already so I probably should fix it before it gets worse.

Symptoms:
-Operates normally (forward and reverse) until it goes past 1/2 way back.
-When it gets around 1/2 way it acts like it drops down (back goes down maybe 1/2") and then it won't slide forward past 1/2 way.
-Will slide forward if I hold the back up to normal height and press the switch.

I assume it's something stupid but I don't have time to look at the diagrams right now and I know there are a few people here that know these assembly's well.

Thumbs up

it sounds like the running track is out of place, try to follow the track back with your hand, and if you feel where it may be bent, give it a yank and try to straighten it out.

another possibiblity( depending on whrre you live) is that the track its self( highly unlikley) rusted and now there it a gap where it is dropping

its going to be really rough to see in there, but i would try to check for a bent running track

Exactly what happened with mine, until it eventually rusted shut (sat for 6 months in the snow). It would go all the way open, then only closed halfway unless I pushed up on the "magic spot" with my hand while the motor pushed forward.

I think that happens with all CRX sunroofs, my rex did the same thing. really the only good way to fix it from what i understand is to remove the head liner remove the sunroof and replace it.

It's been mentioned, but at least one of your stoppers has broken and fallen off. You'll have to remove the sunroof panel. There's no need to remove the headliner to do this. Just check the shop manual, perfect instructions there. I think I paid $5 or so for a new stopper from the dealership. It's an easy fix, just be carefull to not scratch the roof while removing/installing the panel.

I just did this a few months ago, so if you have any other questions about this, let me know.

It's definitely not rust, my tracks are in pretty good shape along with the sunroof. Bent isn't out of the question (it did happen after driving an hour or so with it open at 80+ mph) but I kinda doubt it because it's such a pronounced thing when it drops.

Sounds like the stopper is the most likely culprit. I might dig into it this weekend if I have time but I doubt it.
